And I don't.

In my opinion, the whole point of a video game is to be able to do impossible things (like hitting every ball in the court and striking winning shots from impossible angles), and not copy the reality. Otherwise, I would as well pick up my racket et play on an actual court. But unfortunately I rather suck at it, and I'm glad I can play like Federer on my computer, though Federer has been missing a lot of shots lately :mrgreen:

So maybe it would be good to find a way to shorten the rallies sometimes, especially on clay against defenders (enough of >50 strikes rallies !), and somehow I think the Fatigue system of TE2011 was meant for that (I don't know, I'm still on TE2009), but I don't want a video game where I make errors just for the sake of realism. Playing on a computer is not as tiring and stressful as playing on an actual court, and that's why we make so few mistakes, that's all.

And regarding the auto-shot part : I believe the entire gameplay is based on this, removing it would completely change the feel of Tennis Elbow for me. Ok for not hitting an imaginary ball when you're 5 meters away (if it's possible), but please leave the auto-shot alone !

ha adding more errors? its gonna be the most boring game if he increased the error % and it will not improve realism just drop on players and make manutoo waste his time greatly

lol!a video game is addictive becos of this reason.thats why many gamers are becoming noobs.they want to play everything perfect.its addictive if u want always to be perfect. realism never becomes addictive.i want errors.i hardly see unforced errors :annoyed: its my opinion.sorry if i bothered you :wink:

no problem, you have the right to have an opinion and defend it !

I personnaly think realism is great in a certain extend, and not when it keeps me from having fun. And I tend to think that Manutoo has found a perfect balance between fun and realism (at least in TE2009, don't know about the new version) and I encourage him not to lose focus on this. That's a great achievement for a tennis game, I've never seen this in any other tennis game I've played so far !

true! I agree :) i too think its great achievement for a tennis game having so many online lovers of this game.Manutoo has certainly brought a unique tennis game.but this game is also reflecting some bad behavior from some players.i have not seen players talking so bad while losing in any other game i play online.its because these guys are getting addictive and getting involved in it as if they are playing real life match and becoming noobs.so that's a serious concern for developing a good game.that's why i feel the addiction level should be decreased to make it feel "its just a game".it can be done only by increasing errors,so that they should feel that luck also bothers sometimes(which is the case in real tennis).they will not get addicted then :thinking:

simplayer,
About the Number of Errors, there are 2 ways to get more of them :
1- make the gameplay more difficult
I don't want to do that, because as a player, I don't want a game that needs me to spend tens of hours before I can get a decent level of play ; I want to feel like I'm in the head of Roger Federer... If I want to play badly, I still can go on a real court... ':D

2- make random errors ; ie: for each shot you'd have 1% (for example) chance to miss, whatever you were correctly positioned or not (a similar system to the current service)
I think this would be pretty frustrating for most people, so it's not an option as well

Also, if you play with the visual helpers on (ie: Danger Zone + Ball Preview), then turn them off & this should noticeably raise your number of errors.

EDIT:
If you know how to do, you can try to edit the Tennis.ini & change these lines for each player, from :
BallDiffScale = 1
PrecisionScale = 1
to :
BallDiffScale = 1.25
PrecisionScale = 0.75
You can play around & try other values.
This should greatly raises the number of Errors.
(these changes will have effect only against the CPU, but not in the Online mode)

About the Auto-Shot,
watch your player : as soon as the ball is a bit far from you & you have to run to play it, your player will begin his strike motion before you press any button.
The auto-shot also makes the game easier for new players, and lastly, it makes you do a poor shot when you don't have time at all to prepare your shot, which is better than nothing & also more realistic.
So all in all, it's pretty useful... :yes:

Hey Manu

Would it be possible to implement flash messages of different type of statistics, for example 1st serve % and the amount of winners, just before a player is about to serve? :)
I'm sorry if this has already been asked. :unsure:

I'm sorry, but I don't agree at all. Roger Federer gets a lot of winners but he also misses balls, which is natural, as he is a human being (even though sometimes he doesn't look like it).

Anyway, I'm not sure if you're working on a tennis simulator here or just a tennis arcade game. If you are going for a tennis arcade, I think you are wasting the great real feeling the game has. Now if you're looking for a simulation, I definitely think you should try to make it as real as possible.

I don't think errors should be random. I think they should depend on whether you are on a good position at the time of hitting, the speed of the ball at that moment, the power you hit the ball with, etc.

But that is just my opinion. I think you've made a very good game and you have a chance to achieve a great simulation. But simulation is related to reality. Even Federer hits forehands and backhands that smash the net, so the same thing should happen in a simulation pretty often. Now if people leave a tennis game because of errors, they're not really looking for a simulation.

Regards.

koeloe,
it's not a bad idea, but I'm afraid it would be perturbing for the concentration, especially when playing online... :fear:

simplayer,
I didn't mean Federer doesn't do errors.
I meant about the overall game difficulty & learning curve. If you want to have more errors for the best gamers, you'll have to raise these both things.
And me, as a gamer, I don't want to spend too much time to learn a new game, I just want to feel to be Federer in less than a couple of hours of learning.
Actually, nowadays, I still do more errors than Federer when I play the game, but I know top online gamers do very very few errors... They kicked my ass last year... :blackeye:

Anyway, I just added a "Elite Controls" mode ; you may want to try it, it should raise the number of errors ; it's brand new & experimental, so u're welcome to give me some feedback about it (in a new topic if possible, or here : topic15-3342.php ).

1) More touch sensitive controls. Lighter/shorter key press = slower shot; Harder/longer press = faster shot. The game feels a little too "easy". I'm not talking about errors but just strike power. I think a player should be rewarded for a longer keypress. And kinda penalized for a shorter/easier keypress.
2) Would like to see CPU do some kick serves!
3) Ability to have Nadal shot set to a specific button (just for play against CPU, disabled for online play if it's a big deal)
4) Ability to use F2 key (reverse ends) on 3rd person camera view
5) Ability to save customized camera angles

Brad1981,
1) "more time = more power" is against TE spirit ; there's already an awful lot of stuff related to the time you press your button ; for example, the acceleration shot will have more depth when you prepare it more early, so it'll be already better ; no need to make it faster as well, especially coz in some cases, by going deeper, it'll be a bit faster as well
"penalized for a shorter/easier keypress" => it's already the case ; just turn on the Aiming preview, and you'll see how bad is your precision zone if you don't prepare early enough, long shots are shorter & short shots are longer... hard to penalize more than that... :sweat:

3) The amount of side & top spin is determined by the time you push up & down so the Nadal strike has to stay like this

4) not sure what you would want to happen... That the camera would go to follow the player on the opposite end..?

Re: Some suggestions for upcoming updates

Hello everybody,

I have a few suggestions for offline career mode Davis Cup:

1. I want to know what country is playing at home. And they should choose a surface where the home team has biggest advantage over the away team. What is the current logic behind the surface selection? I think it's random, isn't it? Should really be changed!

2. When the human player is part of the Davis Cup team, then one should be able to select the team mates and - if home team - also the surface manually. The CPU-'captain' currently is only picking the players from the entry list. That's often very ridiculous, especially in the first rounds, when some players are ranked way too high compared to their newly calculated skills. For example in current career: 2006 in the early rounds Agassi was selected to play Davis Cup for the US but Roddick ranked 11th and James Blake (ranked only US No. 4 as ~30th position) was a much much better player. Let's say - he was in a better form.

Agassi of course lost both matches because his skills dropped from 14xx in 2005 to 9xx in 2006. I'm sure you know what i mean... Roddick and Blake would have done a much better job... Same thing for Agentina, when Puerta after his only strong year ranked 4th, was selected to play in 2005 and of course list both matches. There were great alternatives for Agentina und Puerta should not have played then...

The nomination of the player should also depend on the surface decision of the home team. So CPU-captain should choose BEST players for the surface and the possible oponents. They should NOT just make a selection by rank in the entry list.

As I am new in the forum let me say one thing: This is a GREAT GAME :applause: manatoo! But still space for improvements :yes:

I just meant that shot power shouldn't be taken for granted. There should be some effort by the user regarding this. In real life, I could be in perfect position, but if I don't use that extra energy (which would translate into longer button hold in the game), then my shot power will be weaker.

Also, would be possible to create a separate MtRun value for forward/backward foot speed? I have always felt that running forward should be faster, because you are kinda sprinting. But in the game, it feels sluggish. And getting to drop shots against the CPU is near impossible for me, let alone being able to hit anything but a default shot since if I took the time to press the button, the ball would bounce twice by then.

And by the 3rd person camera, I would just like to have the F2 (switching sides) make the CPU player being out in front and my player being in the back.
