why can't backcourt lobs be returned?

Postby norah » 01 May 2014, 20:04

i've been playing this awesome game for a couple of years now. i've searched the forum, but i haven't found anything addressing this, which is the one frustration i have with doubles: no matter what i do, i can't get to the backcourt to return a lob. even when my partner is just a a step or two from where the ball drops, s/he just stands there and doesn't even try to get it. is there a trick to this? it seems unfair because, in doubles, too many balls are lobbed by my opponents at critical points. please help!

beyond that, i can't get enough of this game. i play daily.

Hello,

I'm not sure to understand your problem there. You want to run back after the baseline to hit the lob after the bounce ? Around there, if the lob bounce height, you might not be able to touch it, you have to stay close of the bounce to hit it before it gets too high.

hi. i'm sorry, but i'm not sure i understand what YOU are saying. lol!

ok. in doubles, my partner and i are between the half-court line and the net - not quite up at the net. i hit a shot, and an opponent lobs the ball. i can't run back to catch it off the bounce. (i know I can do it in real life on the court, but maybe not in this game.) but even when my partner is more in the backcourt than at the net and the ball is lobbed, s/he just stands there, when s/he could get the lob off the bounce by taking one or two steps. but s/he just stands there. tn two years, i've never seen my partner take a step toward catching that lob off the bounce. sometimes all s/he would have to do is put the racket out to get it. it may not be a good return, but those lobs from our opponents are just automatic points for them. doesn't seem fair.

Normally, you should be able to smash the lob if you stand near the service line, or slightly behind.
If the CPU doesn't move to smash it, it might be coz :
1- he thinks you're going to catch the lob
2- he thinks the ball is out (but it isn't)
3- it's bugged ;)
for 3rd case, send me a .dmo if you didn't Mod your game.

thanks for the reply, manutoo.

one clarification: the frustrating lobs i'm talking about are too deep to get behind and smash. instead, they're the kind of deep, backcourt lobs that only allow you to manage getting the ball back in play, usually as a soft, semi-lob.

i'd be happy to send you a .dmo, if you could tell me what that is! if by "Mod" you mean modify, no i have not.

Read here => topic5-4588.php .

Note: a lob can always be smashed before it bounces. (as long as we have enough time to reach the correct position)

Manu can any way that you disable that the player hit the ball automatically. Is frustated that always smash before it bounces. In real life many players waiting the bounce for smash and winning the point.

suvurvius,
your player can smash twice without any problem nor penalty, so there's no need to stop the 1st smash.

adner,
if you don't hit the ball before the bounce & smash the wind, then you still can smash after the bounce ; and if you're running, the smash animation won't slow down your player.

But the problem is when the player automatically hits the ball before the bounce, during the run. Kinda impossible to smash again after that.

adner,
if you don't want to smash before the bounce, you can run slightly on the side of the ball, not directly under it.
