Lob & Rush Net tactic

Postby manutoo » 25 Jun 2011, 06:31

Ivan Ljubicic PM'ed me to complain about dr.ivo's tactic of Lobbing & Rushing the net in their last Tournament match (more in "Wimbledon Singles (Official Topic)" : topic23-4633.php?start=480 ).
dr.ivo statued it was not lob, but the default safe strike.

Before to handle this, I'm going to start with a little story.
When I started to play tournaments in real life, I couldn't decently hit a ball out of stress (and maybe also lack of technics ;) ). So instead of trying to play like Agassi and losing 6/0 6/0 in less than 30 minutes, I moonballed for hours (and a few other tricks  ), bringing my opponents into despair ; often, at the end of match, I got their comment : "this is not tennis" ; I was then replying in my mind : "I didn't come here to give you an easy win, you couldn't handle my moonballing, then you didn't deserve to win, so suck it up".

When you go into a tournament, it's not for a nice friendly match ; you can do that during your practice matches ; when you're in a tournament, you're there to win ; and if your opponent has a weakness, you exploit it till the very end.

Thus said, Tennis Elbow isn't perfect (that may be a vastly unconfirmed statement ':D ), so it may have some game flows to exploit, and in such case I should fix them.
To know if we're in such case, I'd need to see a .dmo showing this kind of play between 2 good players. (how to do a .dmo => topic29-2061.php )

You bring up a good point. It's not like you see the top players using this strategy--it's those few who don't have the skills yet and know they cannot win another way.
Still, this could be helped a bit just to make it more realistic and more fair. I've noticed net play seems too easy now. Perhaps reducing reach at the net (even for volleyers) could give some improvement. Just a suggestion :)

I mean that kind of play should be allowed, no one has to get banned because of that. It's a kind of option, so..
