Motivation at Tournaments

Postby Guest » 20 Sep 2026, 23:22

Is Motivation impacted by the level of a tournament? I'm tracking motivation to try to get better at managing it. Player is ranked 35th and went to a big Challenger - an Assistant (20%) traveled with them, 5* plane and hotel accomodations, so I'd expect just a small hit to motivation but it dropped from about 75% at the Coach Centre to about 45% at the tournament. Does the fact that it's a Challenger tournament play into this at all, or what else might explain such a drop?

I also had another player, at the Coach Centre around the same time, that had motivation jump from 75%ish to almost maxed out (98% ish). It's stayed there for a few weeks. No change in training, staff at the Coach Centre etc. to explain this. Sometimes the Motivation system makes sense, and sometimes it just feels so random and I don't understand why.

Thanks. I've read that before, but none of those factors explain these situations.

I should add that I've also tested the dev statement that I've seen made that the main effect Motivation has is as a bonus to training efficiency, and found it had no effect. Test involved training for the same amount of hours with and without a max 25% assistant, and there was no difference in the amount of improvement. So I guess what I'm requesting here is clarification on what Motivation does as well as how it changes. That link does indeed provide quite a bit of useful information and the listed factors such as travel arrangements, having a coach/assistant along, going deep into tournaments, holiday, etc. do have their impacts, there is clearly more going on that doesn't appear to be documented anywhere that I could find.

I checked and indeed the motivation level during training wasn't taking into account the local condition (ie: it was always done like the player was at the Coach Center).
It's fixed for the next update, thanks to your report. (it might come next year, though)

With a 20% Assistant, you lose 5% of Motivation (being without your Coach makes you lose 25%). After, if your player hasn't had a break in a while, that could explain a good part of the 25% remaining loss.

I'm glad a bug was able to be found! I'm not sure it's relevant to what I am reporting though, if I understand you correctly. The training test I did was at the Coach Centre, so treating training like it's taking place there would have no impact. The Assistant and break/vacation factors also aren't enough to explain to the fluctuations in Motivation I've seen. I'll try to send save files via the feedback reporting feature in the game so you can see the details.

FYI for anyone else reading this, I've checked the saves for a couple of situations and I was off on some of the circumstances, so that's my fault. One of them wasn't as big a shift as I thought it had been, another was explainable by a player having time off from tournaments after having played a few weeks in a row. There is still sometimes randomness that I don't understand the reason for, but I'll keep an eye out for better examples. I have sent in save files showing no impact of Motivation on training efficiency, so hopefully they will be of some use in nailing down whether Motivation actually currently does much of anything.

I wrote "ie: it was always done like the player was at the Coach Center" ; but actually, it's : "it was always done like the player was with the Coach" ; so the Assistant counts for nothing, travelling with or without the Coach counts for nothing. The rest of the motivation still counts for the training efficiency, though.

I think it matches what you have described in your Bug Report, right ?

I copy it here for reference :
Two save files, M and N, showing Motivation having no impact on training as discussed on the mana games forum. In both cases I have two players, the default starting player and a new one hired. When the week is advanced and the default player heads off to a tournament, I tested with the coach going or staying - in this way, the motivation of the player at the coach centre either stays at it's current level or drops the 25% penalty. Put the full week's training into one rating (Strength in this case). It does not matter if the coach stays or leaves, higher or lower Motivation has no impact on the training efficiency. The two files show players with differing Motivation; N has a player with High motivation. So unless the threshold for any improvement at all is quite elevated, I see nothing to indicate this effect functions. Also saw a dev statement on Steam that this is the main impact of Motivation and it doesn't do much for match results anymore. So does it just ... not do anything at all currently? Testing match results is my next goal, when I get a good scenario for that.

Yes, that does match. Now that I properly understand what you meant, I was able to reproduce a training efficiency difference. Glad to know how it's supposed to work. :applause:
