How are players selected to participate on the Emerson Cup team? Three players from US were ranked 1, 3, 4. The 3 and 4 played on Emerson Cup. The #1 didn't.

the engine favors the strongest players of the year, which is not necessarily their current rank.
Also, a player who has just won a big tournament or had overall good recent results will get a little better to get selected.
