Serve Speed

Postby kommula297 » 20 Jul 2020, 09:30

I trained my player (215cm) to 100% serve speed & strength, and yet when I used those stats in the training club, the fastest speed of serve I reached is 155mph, whereas the fastest speed I reached in World Tour is 145mph. Is there a difference? If not, can you make the fastest speed higher for World Tour to 155-160 mph?

Serve Speed

Postby kommula297 » 20 Jul 2020, 10:23

I trained my player (215cm) up to 100% on every serve stat, and yet my top speed on serve in world tour is 145 mph, with an average first serve speed at 130 mph. In real life, that's impossible -- players at that height (or near that height, because there are none at that height) regularly blast down 140 mph first serves with their fastest serves clocked at approx. 155 - 160 mph ( Isner's fastest serve is 155 mph, and Karlovic's fastest serve is 157.5 mph). Can you upgrade the serve speed so that the average first speed is near 140 mph and the fastest serve are near 155 -160 mph?

I used the same player (215 cm) on World Tour and Training Club (with the same serve stats -- I maxed out my serve), and there seems to be a 10 mph serving gap between them.

On World Tour, my player's average first serve speed is around 129 mph while in Training Club 139 mph;

Fastest serve in World Tour 145 mph while fastest serve in Training Club 155 mph. (Both using same player and same stats)

Is there a difference between the two modes? Because the stats on training club seemed more accurate for a 215cm tall player.

More specifically, why is there a difference of over 10 mph on average on serves (First serve, Second Serve and fastest serve) between 3D match simulations in World Tour and Training Club -- with the same player and same stats? I feel confused...

As shown, when I max out my serve stats with a tall player, the difference on every serve speed stat is over 10 mph. The one vs Player 2 has a better reflection of serving between tall players, so I don't know why they reduced the serve speed by over 10 mph in World Tour. ??

kommula297,
to my knowledge, the top servers average 1st serve speed is around 125~130mph at best :

You can notice that the fastest serve of all these matches is 144mph. 2nd fastest is 142 and 3rd is 138.

Serves above 140mph are very rare.

It seems the serve averages & fastest serves mostly disappeared since 2 years ago (cannot see them on the Wimbledon nor the ATP websites), so it's hard to find a lot of these stats. Thus if you have more, I'm interested.

I just did a 3-set test with a 100% serve 215cm tall player in the Training Club and got a fastest serve of 141mph and an average of 128mph, in par with the stats above.

Your player may have had a lucky match in your Training Club test.

Note: you linked files on your PC, so they can't show online. :blackeye:

I'm considering adding a Talent that would lead to a few very fast serves per match, but it might not come before a while. :fear:

Hi Manutoo,

Is it because you used level Masters in the training club? I changed the level difficulty in the training club to Masters, and I got the exact same stats that you have.

However, all my previous simulations in the training club were on level Incredible, thus my previous stats with the same player (avg 1st serve 140 mph, fastest serve 155 mph, avg second serve 120mph)

Are every single player in World Tour on level Masters difficulty?

The World Tour difficulty is Pro-10, which is thus the level for my test in the Training Club.
On Incredible difficulty, the players get a boost to their skills, and thus can serve faster.

Ah, I see. The difference is between the level difficulties.

Well, if the 3D simulation is between CPU vs CPU, then is there an option (in the game/ in the .ini files) to change the difficulty of the CPU in World Tour? It will create stronger serves and better rallies, which in turn creates a better experience -- but right now I don't see an option of changing the simulation difficulty in World Tour (I can change the difficulty in Training Club though).

Hi Manutoo,
In other words, if the simulation difficulty/level can be changed in Training Club, can it also be changed in World Tour? Or is the simulation level fixed in World Tour?

Turn on Settings -> 3D Match -> Manual Player Control . This will let you change the difficulty level of your opponent and your player (do both !) from the match presentation screen.
