Question: counter stat

Does the counter stat affect accelerations in any way? The document talks about topspin and normal strike speed bonus but there also it's own paragraph about "being less constrained about fast incoming balls"? Is this for accelerations too?

I still don't know what this stat does. LOL

Not a mystery at all. It does what the documentation says it does, your accelerations aren't getting any speed bonus...but your normal/topspin strikes are better with the counter skill vs "fast incoming balls". Hope it helps LOL

"but the slow incoming balls are also a bit less easy for you"

Does this mean you make more errors, or the speed is lower, or it's harder to control them? And since this is in a different paragraph, does it also only apply to topspin/normal strikes? I'll assume yes, but just wondering. I've been playing this game for years and still don't know the best % to set my counter to :)

Slow incoming balls => less pace on your normal/topspin strikes (counter stat)

But in case of being a "counter" style player, your accelerations are less pacy vs slice defence for example...no difference though (vs slice def) if you are a PB with 0% or 100% counter for example...only in normal/topspin shot speed...

100% counter should be superior in all cases (despite of what people used to say about needing to set 0% counter vs Tog; I think that's bollocks seeing that some extra speed on your b1 shots is never a bad thing - well, unless you plan to use weird slow b1 shots and rush the net )...

Also, high counter improves your spin defence since you can hit faster/deeper topspin shots with a bit more consistency, so it's harder for defender freaks to spin you into submission since you can spin back a bit better...

Anyways, the differences are minor and I don't believe it's a crucial stat to have to be very good, unless you're a counter style player - then it's a MUST to have 100% counter or so

Thanks :) . I guess this is what I thought.

Manu, can you please confirm this?

Yup, I confirm most of what has been said here...

I'll add 1 thing about the slow ball handicap.
When a ball is slow, it'll be harder to hit if you have 100% Counter instead of 0%.
Difficult balls lead to less speed or less precision.
But most of times, the ball still won't be difficult enough to lead to any handicap (coz slow balls in a general way are easy).
It could occur mainly on slow & very low balls. In such case, you should see some slight differences between 100% & 0%, but we're probably talking about something like 1 or 2km/h penalty and maybe 5% precision loss max (on all strikes though, not only normal/topspin). But I never tested to check how big it actually was in game, so I'm just guessing there...
