Some suggestions!

Postby S.Williamz » 07 Mar 2010, 19:56

A compiled a list of suggestions that I think would improve the game(not in order of importance, might add more) :D :

1. Reduce inertia when doing smaller movement with left, right, up and down arrows(ie. when not running large distance and quickly changing side etc.)

2. Reduce the power of 1st serve slightly(or make it slightly harder to aim right on lines,) and/or make them go in slightly less often, especially when hitting second serve with acceleration

3. Reduce the effectiveness of serve and volley tactic somewhat(volleying in rallies is fine as is) and remove a volley that is hit with fire 1+up(not always successful though) that goes short and is extremely hard to get(although suggestion n.2 might do the trick as well in reducing effectiveness of s&v)

4. Reduce the effectiveness of dropshots(at high skill points) slightly by for example making them fly a little longer when hit against harder shots

5. Make badly positioned shots hit with topspin shot, normal strike and slice weaker, maybe by having them be slower flying and less short and low(as those are quite difficult to hit against), or shorter and loopier, so that it is always favorable to attempt good positioning, and there's larger penalty for bad positioning even when hitting other than acceleration

6. Make accelerating somewhat more effective on clay(to make it atleast a little viable against spin, especially on low ping)

7. Do something to make the game play more equal on all pings(preferably make the low pings more like mid/high pings, and not other way around, so rallies aren't too long)

Adding that while I think n.5 suggestion would be a really good improvement, something would have to be done about volleys because right now the only good way to hit a pass is to position badly with normal strike.

great ideas i think makes consistancy lower and second serve accel is retarded simply + its great to see u think about not being able to get fully power on every shot

agreed with everything but 3 and 4, I don't think volleys nor drop shots (this, except in clay) are too effective, but everything else looks like great suggestions, specially 5

Spin and mispositioned shots need serious tuning. I played S.Williamz against his "spin" version and it was funny how flawed that game was...Lol, but he doesn't usually play that style, anyways the defenders do and it's just pointless...He could misposition on purpose on any shot and hit the side line at an awkward angle, it's just disgusting...There were many rallies when I hit many clean shots and I was at a disadvantage vs purposefully mispositioned strikes. That's just unacceptable. Anyways, I think he agrees with me about these points as we can see here lol. And I haven't lost 6-1 6-0 in a month or so

Edit: The heavy inertia also basically kills the defence when you're trying to make small adjustments in movements. I think this is pretty unrealistic, having in mind how many small steps the Top pros make efficiently.

P.S. Temes, did you record? lol

if u meant make movement harder because of small steps then i think there are plenty of people moving unrealistic compared to in real life and that angle out of the court is so slow.. MOVE FASTER XD

Simon, that's not what I meant  Reducing inertia means that these small movements won't make you "stuck" in a spot...E.g. down arrow then left/right movement = not effective at all....Realistic? No. Watch Fed and Nadal move.

Also, you are complaining about Voja's and Tog's movement from side-to-side but you do a very slightly modifed version of that movement with more tendency to move slightly towards the middle in between the opponent's shots rather than further to the side like Tog does for example. It's a game, it can't be 100% realistic and those movements are relatively ok for me, as far as this ridiculous getting "stuck" from a slight down arrow press thing disappears, i.e. reduced inertia on short movement adjustments.

Another suggestion is to completely eliminate the mispositioned shots in the following manner. If you're hitting the ball with your "body" (literally), it should end up in the net (or out) for any strike other than slice. And even those slices should be loopier and easy to attack. Great players can misposition on purpose to gain an advantage which is extremely lame, thus mispositioning should be highly penalised in this way. Furthermore, in TE we don't hit the net nearly as much as the real players do, so this would be more realistic too.

I guess this is due to Online Delay, not to game physics. Check in warm-up to confirm or invalidate this...
