Cheaty slice shot..?

Postby manutoo » 25 Mar 2008, 14:19

Hello,

Does anybody know how to reproduce the strike shown in this topic :
https://www.managames.com/Forum/ftopic1159.php
..?

I'd like to fix this, then I'll do an update with a couple of other fixes...

It's hard to do on a consistent basis. And I have never been able to get that extreme of a shot when trying to replicate it. I think it's best if the controls are left alone.

I think this maybe what someone showed me today. They said that you could hold down the 'x' key with a strike key on serve to make the ball curve, and it works. Also, they said that the 'z' key will product a looping forehand and I think a booming serve; the forehand part works, because I tried it. I hope that this gets fixed, because I don't think you can't hit a curve ball like this in real tennis. And, it is frustrating to be in the right position to return a serve and then see the ball curve away right before you swing.

Hello Christopher,

this is called a sliced serve, and it's totally possible to do that in real... And consider yourself lucky that the full kicked serve isn't in TE2006, coz it's even more painful to return ! ;)

@everybody :
I found out how to do the slice same than shown on the picture, but as it requires a kind of sacrifice to be able to do it, I will consider if I remove it or not for next update (anyway, as I have just done an update yesterday, it probably won't be before long time...)

Maybe this is already confirmed by Manutoo, but I wanted to also confirm this extremely crazy shot. I played against someone tonight ranked a Master, and his nick was just "Player 1." He was receiving my serve from behind the baseline and off to my right. When he hit the ball, the ball curved in to my left enough to pass the sideline by maybe a couple of feet (in real life), but by the time it had crossed the net and was between me and the net, it had curved all the way back to my right past the umpire...crazy shot and no way I could have gotten it. Of course, it was a fault, but the point is that this is not a normal slice shot. And also, he hit several slow, looping shots that in real life would have been 30' - 50' high -- extreme. He would not reveal his secrets. He just said that he was "not here to chat." So, there is something going on. I was able to get 1 game :), which I am proud of.

I have learned how to hit a slice serve, and I have played with others who can do this little curve, but what this guy did was abnormal, no doubt.

Oh, I played this guy again later, and this time his name was "Jimbo, the Rocket." He said he was a good friend of Manutoo, but I doubt it. Anyway, he was very rude and would not tell me how he does these shots.

Yup, I don't know any "Jimbo, the Rocket" ... ;)

His special shot could be the new: slice effect + topspin strike....

I personally use the slice shot a lot, but rarely the z shot as few people seem to know how to handle it and it might be a bit unfair. I also use the loopy lob shot a lot and sometimes the slice+topspin shot, but it's hard to get into court. Lol. I'm using these shots because they are there and no one has told me that they're not supposed to be used...and I don't think it's hard to return any of these at all if you have little experience.

I just hope more people would know about these shots because I'm called a "dirty cheater" sometimes, even if I only use the slice shot. :(

Hello,

to make the "Cheaty slice shot" that doesn't pass the baseline, you have to set your backhand (or forehand) to 0% (or close to that); thus, you'll strike the ball more weakly, but with the same amount of slice, and it won't reach your opponent baseline...

The drawback is that you will less powerful accelerations, and you'll do faults more easily if you don't place yourself correctly...

OK. I played NOOB today, and several of the shots he made are just not right. I cannot do this, and I have no idea how he is doing it. This time, though, I have pictures:

So, this for me is impossible. The ball is coming cross court, and someone he hits it such that the ball goes way off past my right baseline corner. From his position, I cannot even hit that corner (my return would have gone slightly inside of the baseline corner had I been trying to hit the baseline corner). So, his effect is extremely excessive.

Is it possible to make is so that players cannot do this.

Thank you.
