End of year rankings drop??

Hello Manu,

I just finished year 2006 in my career and when I started year 2007 I lost 4 positions in rankings (dropped from 11 to 15). Why did this happen? Last tournament I played was Paris Masters. After that, I didn't play ATP Finals nor Davis Cup either. These were the last tournaments in the year. Davis Cup gives no points and the guys who passed me in the rankings were not on Finals. Anyway, even if they were in Finals, my ranking dropped only in week 52. That doesn't make any sense, since there are no tournaments scheduled from weeks 47 to 52. Is it a bug or is there another explanation?

Hello,

it's either a bug or you got points from a challenger tournament the year before on Week 52..?

No, I don't play Challenger tournaments since 2004. The only tournaments I played in those weeks were in doubles (and that got me 3 points only in rankings). I also played Davis Cup playoffs in the previous years, but that shouldn't count, right?

Look at the screens of the rankings variations:

If you made it in the Top #30 for the 1st year, the game might have switched to top player rule for your points on 1st week of the new year ; I'm not sure how it works in real life...

Hmmm, then it must be it. I wasn't aware of this rule, I just checked the game manual and saw it. It makes sense, since I reached Top 30 this year and, during the year, I won 7 ATP 250 and got good results mostly in these tournaments. Except for Shanghai and Paris, my results in big tournaments weren't that good.
Thanks Manu! :)
