Hello,

here the test version #1 :
managames.com/download.php?TennisElbow2008_ft1.exe [~9MB]

This version is to test the new gameplay & ball physics and see the 3D players (male & female) in action by yourself !

The AI is very basic ! It's just there to send the ball again & again, so I don't need any comment about it now ! ;)
Even its animations are still synchronized with the old ball physics, not the new one..!

But you can consider the gameplay as final, so feel to comment about it as much as you want.
Actually, I'll tune depending of your comments, and also once the AI will be done, to be sure it's well balanced...

No more explanation for now, as I want to know if you can figure out how it works by yourself (if not, I'll have to create a tutorial and/or add visual hints).

You cannot edit your player from within the game; to do so, you have to edit the "Tennis.ini" file, under [TrainingClub_p1] .

Here the entries that have an influence on the game :
BackhandVolley
Backhand_Consistency
Backhand_Power
Backhand_Precision
Counter
DoubleHandBH
Dropshot
ForehandVolley
Forehand_Consistency
Forehand_Power
Forehand_Precision
Lift // top spin
Lob
NetPresence
Preview // ball preview
Service_Consistency
Service_Power
Service_Precision
Smash
Speed
Stamina
Style // 0: defender; 1: power baseliner; 2: puncher; 3: varied; 4: volleyer; 5: counter
Tonicity
Soul // 1: human ; 2 : CPU
Female // 0: male; 1: female
Hand // -1 : left ; 1 : right
Name

By default, I set the Player 1 with good forehand, volley BH & Service, and average backhand, volley FH.

List of Strikes:
* b1 = normal strike
* b1 + up = short ball
* b1 + down = top spin

* b2 = slice
* b2 + up = drop shot
* b2 + down = defensive lob

* b1+b2 = acceleration
* b1+b2+up = short acceleration
* b1+b2+down = aggressive lob

* No button = safe strike

On Service :
b1+b2 = 1st service at max speed
b1 = safe 1st service, but slower
b2 = 2nd service, 100% safe
up = slice
down = top spin

Preview #3:
and a new preview for the ones of you who don't have time to download & install the test version :

There are 2 things that are not in the new gameplay :

1) a new button that would be used to indicate when we want to play the forehand instead of the back & vice versa, not play the volley (coz we think the ball is out), nor play the smash (coz we want to run to the baseline) ; but most of this would have almost no influence on the gameplay (for example: right now, the player runs as fast as normal when he's doing the smash), so I'm not sure it's too useful

2) fatigue handling on the whole match ; coz I think players usually don't get noticeably tired before the 4th set, if not the 5th, so it's not really needed...

On the 1st run, you may have to wait up to 30s before entering the menus.

Can you see the loading screen ?
If not, it means something is really wrong. Thencould you send me the "System.log" from your TE2008 directory ..?

You may try also to reduce the resolution (by running the Configuration tool).

It's too hard :( Every strike I hit goes out and the player often doesn't hit the ball although it looks like it's in the right position.

The first thing I noticed is that the movement still looks a bit unrealistic, except when the player runs to the side or when the player runs to the side and forward at the same time, which looks great. I noticed that the player starts running to the side when I hold left/right arrow for some while, but I think s/he should start running earlier.

Otherwise it's pretty good to see there's a new version and I like how the screen moves to the sides with the player.

I personally like it's so hard :) I lost 6-1 my first match :D

There are some things that we have to figure out on our own, I like that. And yeah, movement is better, especially when going diagonally, but if I understood manutoo well, it's something that still has to be improved.

Also some strikes are different so I have to learn them lol I hope that won't affect much my playing in TE2006 :)

good work manu, looking forward to next version ;)

I had same problem as you, but for sure it´s the first time we played it so it´s gonna be hard tho. Exercise gives skill...

Yeah, I played more matches and I figured out how to rally, the strikes have been changed so I guess it will take some time to get used to it (although I wonder why dropshot isn't F1+2 + up anymore). And I miss the safe strike (F2 in TE2006), but I guess it will be in the final version.

Anyway I still don't get how to volley. Even if I want to make a dropshot volley (normally quite a safe strike in TE2006), it makes some weird lob that ends up 3 meters behind the baseline, and if I try other volleys it mostly ends up too wide.

EDIT: I just see that safe strike is no button... I will try it later 8-)

@ahmedcoolio :
I got ur System.log , it seems normal. Did you try to patient 30s, or even 1 min, to be sure the game really doesn't start ..?

@Tom Paulman :
is the drop shot volley an easy strike in real life ..? ;)

The drop shot isn't b1+b2+up anymore coz now all b1+b2 shots use acceleration (which have a limited number per point), while b2 doesn't use acceleration.

@Everybody :
Ok, I shouldn't have let the AI hitting like a lumberjack..! ;)
I tuned it down, so the testing will be more easy. Now, the "Level" of [TrainingClub_p2] determine the hit strength ; it's on 3 now, set it back to 2, 1 or even 0 if u need greater challenge ! ;)
Put it to 4 or 5 if you need to relax... :P

I added the change of ratio on window resize, so u can test 16:10 & 4:3 easily.

I tuned the anim & racket size, so now, it shouldn't look like we're missing a reachable ball.

New version is on site, you can download it now (from the link in 1st post).

Beta = not a final version....
Actually, here it's probably even not an alpha, but I was lazy to change the warning text... :)
