Bug! [with qualifications 2 weeks in a row]

Postby stevedaytona » 31 May 2007, 18:18

In the first year of a new player I had accidentally entered him for 2 Futures tournaments for 2 successive weeks. As his ranking was very low he needed to qualify for both tournaments. In the first tournament he successfully qualified. At the end of that week, I first got a message saying because of my good results, I would be entered into the Main Draw for the 2nd Tournament. Then, I got a Travel Plan screen to take the player to the 2nd tournament. I was a little confused at this point, but clicked OK to the Travel Plan anyway. My players next match was then the qualifying for the 2nd Tournament!

So, I continued playing the qualifying for the 2nd Tournament and again was successful. Then the end of the week report showed that I had won the 1st Tournament - received 18 ranking points and went up the rankings by 100 places!

Hello,

humm, by any chance, were you playing with 2 players ?
My guess would be that the Travel Plan screen popped up for your 2nd player...
But if you didn't have a 2nd player, it was from somewhere else... Did you keep a saved game around this point ?

(I just did a quick test in the same situation, and everything went as it should)

I did have a 2nd player, but I know it was not related to him.

I do have a saved game, just a week or so after this happened.

I just looked at the tournament draws, and in the tournament my player "won" (Hungary F2 in Week 32), another player won and mysteriously there is a player with a bye in round 1! The draw for Italy F5 in Week 33 shows my player made the Semi-Final and had also qualified (which, of course, would have taken place the previous week).

Do you want me to send you the saved game?

got it...

This is really really very strange..!
Your player history says you won Hungary F2 on Week 32, but the draws show that you weren't there, and that you were qualifying for Italy F5 on that week instead... :?

Pfff, very not easy to know what happened. If this ever happens again, please save right away, and send me all of your saved games (automatically weekly saves included).

I guess there are some problems when TEM has to deal with :
(- different players coached ?)
- several tournaments with qualifications / final draw on consecutive weeks

We noticed weird things today playing with guys in Features. Between the different draws (Qual / Main / Singles / Doubles) it can be quite a mess.

Also we noticed we were automatically pulled out of a tournament cause we had not finished the previous one. To be given the choice between boldly W/Oing the first to go to the 2nd one (it was a Grand Slam) would be nice ;)

as far as I know, this is not allowed by the ATP... ;)

I did not take note of them cause I was quite lost myself.

The most noticeable thing was on the report of the week. My 2nd player had won the feature in singles and it appeared on my 1st player summary (first season of play, they played in the same feature)... or something like that.

Anyway, it didn't bother me at all.

I LOVE THIS GAME.

Humm...
If you have something strange like this again, could you send to the email address you got your license key from your "Tennis.ini" and "System.log" files, and all of the "Profiles" sub-folder (compressed in .rar or .zip) ?
(everything is in your Tennis Elbow Manager directory, usually under "C:\Program Files\Tennis Elbow Manager\" )

I will do that - if I ever reproduce that error.

I am noticing that the game does have some difficulty with when a player enters tournaments in successive weeks and needs to qualify for the 2nd tournament. There is no opportunity NOT to travel to the qualifying tournament which means the player is effectively withdrawing from the first tournament. It seems to me it should be the other way round - the player should compete in the tournament in which he is in the Main Draw and not the qualifiers for the following tournament.

In the real world, I'm sure that if a player (whose ranking was low enough to have to qualify) was in a Main Draw he would stay there until eliminated. The Futures rulebook seems to say that to be included in a qualifying draw, the player has to be at the site of the tournament. So, I would say the game should handle this by not allowing a player to travel if he is still in the tournament, and automatically withdraw him from the 2nd tournament (or allow the tournament director to give him a wild card for the Main Draw?).

Anyway, just a little bit of tweaking required to make the game behave sensibly! Not that this is that big of a deal - just a frustration since it happens when you finally get your player to win a few matches!!

Hello stevedaytona,

the game should already work _exactly_ like you said : your player should withdraw from the qualifications of the next tournament, and go on in his current tournament.
Whenever you see this is not the case (ie: if flying to next tournament's qualifications), don't hesitate to save your current game and send everything to me..!

EDIT: if you have an old version of TEM (more than 2 weeks), update it now
