Thoughts & Suggestions

Postby Rob4590 » 28 May 2007, 10:49

Manu - a couple of things that I've noticed etc.

In some of the 48 man draws, there are only 8 seeds - this leads to 8 other random people getting byes into Round 2. Surely there should be 16 seeds getting byes? I think this occurs in Indianapolis and Washington around week 30 ish.

Couple of suggestions.

Can there be more "milestones" ? At the moment I've only really seen the "you've reached the top 100". Maybe this could be extended to top 500,200,100,50,20,10,5,1 both for singles and doubles.
Also, in the end of week summary, you get the top risers and fallers from that week - could there also be a section for movers in the top 10? Because they are only ever going to move a couple of places at a time, so you never see them appear in that section. It would also be nice to have a "biggest movers in the year" section as well.

It would be good to have a list of players who have been No 1's and how many weeks they have been there (only in the playing years)
Also an easily accessible list of who has won the most grand slams, masters series, ATP tour events, money. What the highest number of ranking points acheived ever is.

Maybe also a list somewhere of those players who are currently injured? And how long they are out for?

Also what would be REALLY good, would be a way to see how your players (x4) are improving (or not) in their SKILLS - is there any way of exporting them to Excel maybe? So you can see that when the contract started he was at 50 average, and after the year he is now at 65 average.

It would also be nice to be able to see the points available for each round of each tournament.

Finally just one minor irritation - I see fairly often in the big tournaments (slams and masters series) that one or two of the top 10 (usually including one of the top 3) don't play in the singles, but do then play in the doubles - seems a little weird. Why would they not play the singles?

Hello Rob4590,

>> 48 man draws, there are only 8 seeds

it was a mistake ! (there are 2 tournament categories for 48 draws, and I only put 16 seeds to the most important one and forgot the other one !)

>> Can there be more "milestones" ?

it should already have Top 100, 10 & 1, in singles & doubles.
You never saw them ? (if yes, I'll have to check the code)
I'll think about adding more steps.

>> could there also be a section for movers in the top 10?

top 10 can be easily looked in the rankings, and I'd say when u want to know info about top 10, u want to look 10 of them... :)

>> biggest movers in the year

yup, I should do this..!

>> Maybe also a list somewhere of those players who are currently injured?

right now, players are only injured for 1 week and it's going to stay like that, at least for a while (coz else it'd be a lot harder to have rankings close of real ones)

>> players (x4) are improving (or not) in their SKILLS - is there any way of exporting them to Excel maybe?

yup, it should be easy to export the current player states to Excel, like I did for rankings.

>> top 10 don't play in the singles, but do then play in the doubles
>> - seems a little weird. Why would they not play the singles?

coz they're a bit too tired .? 8)
I'm going to lower a lot this possibility...

Other suggestions are noted, and accounted for the priority of further updates... :)

Thanks Manu - just one other thing that I've just seen - the Shanghai Masters doesn't count at the moment as a Masters Series Title - I would have thought that it would do?

Re the milestones - I saw the top 100 milestone flash up, and also got it for ending a year at no 1 for the first time, but it definitely didnt come up a few weeks earlier when I got to no 1 for the first time. Getting to top 10 didnt come up either (both for user character and other player)

Sponsor objectives - one of my players has the bonus objective of winning a masters series or above in either singles or doubles - he has won a Grand Slam and this hasnt registered as acheiving his objective.

>> Shanghai Masters doesn't count at the moment as a Masters Series Title

It wasn't counted with Masters Series in the Streak stats and I just corrected that.
Did you mean about somewhere else as well ?

>> Getting to top 10 didnt come up either

found & corrected the bug !

>> he has won a Grand Slam and this hasnt registered as achieving his objective

I looked and didn't see what could be wrong, so I'd need a saved game just before winning the Grand Slam to look further into this one.

It would be nice to have junior competitions too :D (to hard to make I think)

Maybe more sponsor contracts, that we can choose between few of them

I support Rob's idea "could there also be a section for movers in the top 10?" because it's kind a hard to look every week or two in rankings

I saw that frequently (3-4 times in one carrer) No 2. on rankings plays very good at French open (semis or finals), and then just few weeks later on UK open he get kicked from some weak player at 1st round.
Few times (3-4 times) I was first on entry rankings, but 2nd on race, and then I noticed that, and it helped me a lot, but It's not that real...

In Masters cup it would be nice to have some standings in round robin.

Also, preovious winners of tournaments section would be fantastic too

And some more options in Trainer center or new "player menu" (like house, car, mobile phone...etc, and that all that affect motivation or some other skill, it would be nice to have a house in Monte Carlo :) ), because after I earn much money I can't spend it

When I was translating game I saw word "Girlfriend" but in game I couldn't find that option?

Here is one bug (maybe just in my system):
after i play a while, suddenly window send/don't send pops up, I can still play game and save game no matter that this window is there, but why is he poping up? Maybe sound? Cause I noticed that little icons from songs appear in my down right corner

And one on Carrer Titles. I don't know how to explain on english so I'll "draw"

Now its like this, for example (It will be long, so that you can see my point) :

Int'l series: Doha (12, 14, 17, 21), Adelaide (08, 09, 13, 15), Auckland (06, 10, 12, 15), Zagreb (07, 08, 09, 10), Vina Del Mar (11, 17, 22), Casablanca (09), Estoril (07, 09), Munich (08), Portscach (11, 13), London (06, 09, 11), Halle (10), Notingham (13, 15), Gstaad (06), Newport (07), Umag (06), New Haven (09), Beijing (11, 13, 19, 21), Metz (14, 16), Moscow (07), Stockholm (08, 10), St. Peterburg (09), Basel (10), Lyon (13, 15, 17)

So you see It's kind a hard to see when I won something, maybe you could make it more visible, like this for example:

Int'l series:

Doha (12, 14, 17, 21)
Adelaide (08, 09, 13, 15)

Auckland (06, 10, 12, 15)
...etc

Don't get me wrong, game is fantastic and I love it, but few more options would make it even more fantastic
 :D

Just one more thought from me - the goals that you have to complete each year with the players - would it be possible to be given different options ? eg: Reach top 10, or win a Int'l Series event - so you can choose which you want to do? Its just that at the moment, some of them are a little unrealistic - I just had Korolev (ranked 4, won French Open in previous year) set me the goal of winning another slam, but not falling below 7 at any point. About 6 weeks later, he reaches the QF of the French, loses a lot of ranking points, so goes to 8 in the rankings, and after Wimbledon (UK Open) he leaves my employ. Now in 15 months that I had coached him, he had gone from ranking 40 to 8 (via 4) winning a Slam - a player is NOT gonna fire their coach at that point!!
Also - on the "win a tournament" condition - maybe another option on there might be "or reach 3 finals"
Maybe its just me - but I'd like to coach the same players for 4-5 years, not keep changing. There should be some way of keeping the players if their goal is only just failed, or they do really well in another area - ie doubles - that was the other thing with Korolev - he'd won 2 double Slams, was ranked No 1 in doubles as well when he fired me.

One other thought - for the coach - when all the courts etc are built - there should be some maintenance costs for them per year.

Just to answer the previous poster - re French Open success and UK Open failure - that happpens in real life too - a lot of guys who win the French cannot win on grass (Kuerten, Ferrero, Nadal - until last year, Bruguera, Gaudio, Coria), and vice versa as well - Ancic, Roddick, Ivanisevic etc, who have all done well at Wimbledon, have never done any good at Roland Garros.

Yes I know, but it's not the same player all the time. Every time it was different player (Del Porto, Armitraj, Obreliner and one more), they play good every tournament, and years after they reach at least QF.

I know that it's a long shot, but I'll try to monitor that even more from now, and I'll post again if I see it again[/quote]

I agree with you on this one Rob.

I'm still new at this game, but I took on an Italian player, Da Col, when he was ranked in the 90's with a goal of reaching #59. I'd only had him for 6 or 7 weeks when suddenly he dropped to 185 - he had done really well in Week 42 the previous year. I managed to get him back to 144 after the 5 weeks below 120 but there were too few tournaments at that time of year. I think this aspect needs tweaking a little bit to be more realistic. In this instance, the player would have known that he was defending a load of points that week and would have expected his ranking to drop.

There probably should be a setting of how happy the player is with his coach based on his tournament results while with the coach rather than just his ranking. Don't know how easy that would be to implement though.

Still, loving the game so far.

>> French Open success and UK Open failure

I think too it's kinda normal.

>> There should be some way of keeping the players if their goal is only just failed

I'll think about it for a more global change, but right now, I think I could raise from 5 to 10 weeks the tolerance period when the player isn't ranked well enough. Would it be good enough ?

In real life, I don't follow very much the coach/player stories, but it seems really usual for players to be launched to the top by a coach, and then drop him as soon as they go down for a little while. Didn't you notice this ?

Moreover, I remember both Fererro & Grosjean, when they reached Top 5 to be willing to be #1, whatever the cost was (big injuries for both of them came a bit after), instead of having for goal to stay in top 10.
I think it's not that usual for players to have unrealistic goals, it's called "big ego"... ;)

Anyway, TEM is only a game, so if it needs a bit of softening in the current rules to be more enjoyable to play, we'll see what we can do..! :)

It would definitely be an improvement to raise the tolerance period to 10 weeks - this would be especially useful at the end of the season. Consider: player wins US Open 1 year, then following year goes out 3rd round - his ranking would drop big time. It would be almost impossible to recover sufficient ranking points in 5 weeks (you may not even have entered many tournaments in those weeks). It may be possible to recover enough over a 10 week period.

Though I still would like to see a coach/player happiness attribute that would fluctuate over time depending on how the play feels he is progressing

In real life, it's certainly true that some players have a rapid turnover of coaches. But others (James Blake springs to mind) stick with the same coach whatever happens.

Ok, the 10-week period will be there for the next update.
If you're hurry to get it, change this line, under [Coach], in the Tennis.ini, from :
MaxDropWeek = 5
to:
MaxDropWeek = 10
(or whatever you'd like ;) )

Maybe in the future, I'll add some parameter to determine if a player is more or less easy to fire the coach.

That would be good - the players having different personalities - so some would only allow you a short period of poor ranking, whereas other, more patient ones might allow you much longer

Yeah that would bee good about the ersonalities, but it would be good if they had heart to dig out of holes and fight back.

hey, I'd like to post some of my reflecions or questions.

Maybe some of them have already been posted but either I havent noticed it or because of I read partly.

1st: Is there a possibility of changing your doubles partner once you choose one. In 1st season I chose Dawid Olejniczak and played with him for the rest of career. Couldnt find a option to choose someone else.

2st: Could be there a possibility for users to have a option to make their players retire, either before match(to save energy before further, more important tournament) or during the match(I know it's silly because pretending fake injury isnt fair but maybe...)

3st: I'd love to have something looking like "Playing Activity" (round by round) like there is at atptennis.com but I know it's too big request :P

Apart from this all I want to say that I very enjoy and appreciate your game and thanks you for it. Really cool.

I would like a retire button in a match and when training have a retiore button, because my player gets injured way tooooo much so I would like a early retirement.
