Alpha 2 : comments & suggestions

Postby manutoo » 06 Nov 2006, 17:20

Hello,

here we go for the Alpha 2 :
https://www.managames.com/download.php?T ... er_fe2.exe [3.2 Mo]

So, we have more or less all the important gameplay elements, but it still lacks a multitude of details of little or medium importance.
The only big thing missing is the player base evolving every year : right now, there are 400 players, whose the last 100 are duplicated 1 time or even 2 times, so don't worry if you see different low ranked players with the same name.

Else, you can consider that whatever is there, it's kind of final, so don't hesitate to comment if you think some things are wrong (example: ergonomic problem), or if you'd like to see more options or information in the screens already there.
Thanks to let me know about all bugs you may meet. I'll try to correct all bugs reported within the next few days, and update the Alpha. Bugs reported later will be corrected for the Beta.

So, considering the time I needed to reach this Alpha, and even if my planning is telling that I need 1 month and half to finish the game, I don't think the final version will be ready for Christmas, but I really hope to have the Beta in that time !

And a lil shot for the road :

Hi Manutoo - just downloaded the Alpha 2, went to do my first week of training, having selected my first tournament for week 3. Selected to do 10 hours training on the top group of technical skills and got a box telling me I was injured through exhaustion, and that I was going to need

-2.14748e+009 days of rest to recover.!!!

Think this needs sorting!

Sorry to double post - got to week 17 and went to train - and whichever skills I trained in - they then went to 0%.

A question as well: How long can you remain in minus money before you have to give up?

Hello Rob4590,

you can double post as much as you want, as long as you bring new bug report or comment ! ;)
So thanks for these 2 reports.
- I corrected the injury pop-up.
- For the all 0% bug, it'll need more works, I'll have a deep look tomorrow. If you have any hint about how to reproduce it, let me know.
- you can be indefinitely with negative amount of cash, but as long as you don't have enough cash, you can't hire team members, travel in biz or 1st class, sleep in 3* or 5* hotels, and without that, you shouldn't be able to reach the top #10 (but maybe you can know, coz I still didn't tune finely the difficulty level ;) )
- I also removed a bug that prevented to play double tournament (but still not sure it's 100% playable)

Ok, so I updated the Alpha, you can download it again.

We will be able to edit PC players tour? (for ex. be able to make Federer's tour, Nadal's tour, etc, so it doesn´t happend like in Tennis Elbow where Gaudio plays all grass season, or Federer plays latin american tour, etc)

Hello NyGeL,

Humm, I think it would be delicate to edit precisely the CPU players' tour (for technical/practical reason, and because players don't do the same tour every year during all their career)
But I'm still planning to make defenders play more on clay, and varied & volleyers more on fast surfaces...

Manu - just had the game crash during the first tournament.

In the 24hrs training before the first match, I got injured (by the way - in the game it is incorrectly spelt as INJURIED - should be INJURED)
It told me I had 25 days rest needed till fully recovered, but then it let me play my first qualifying match, which I won. The draw then went strange, showing a blank where my name should have been in the 2nd round, but showing my name in another spot in the 2nd round with a result that wasn't the one I had won by. I went to the training section again - trained for the 2 hours (on rest - which reduced the injured days down to 21?) then went to play the 2nd round match, and the game crashed, giving me a windows error message - The program met an unhandled exception - Crash logged in "Errorlog.txt" - which took me back to my desktop.

Also - in a previous try before this go - I go the stats all at 0% thing again - this time at week 13

Had this crash at the same point again - but this time without the injury - the draw didnt show my opponent having gone through to the 2nd round of qualifiers (having beaten me this time) and then crashed straight away before letting me train again

After I lose my first match I get the option to go back to the coaching area or not. Which ever one I pick my game crashes. That's a bug.

Pfff, I did mistake after mistake... :?

Ok, this time I played a while to be sure I didn't let some bug there. (I didn't test the double, though, so it might have some nasty bug left there)
I corrected the problem leading to 0% everywhere (I guess), and the fact that you could still play the next match when you were getting injured during the training before it.

Thanks Rob4590 for your report about the spelling correction and the injury bug..!

And thanks everybody for your patience against these bugs.
You can now download the last version :
https://www.managames.com/download.php?T ... r_fe2a.exe

I hope you will have the possibility to do comments on the gameplay at last ! :)

Right I've just played 2 years of game time.

Some bugs - the head to head results that you get on your next opponents profile just before the match are the wrong way round. -

eg I beat Federer. Next time I play him, it will give the head to head as Fed 1, me 0.

At the majors, the 1st round is shown as R3, not R1.

There is also a display problem with the money when you are choosing hotels / plane tickets - when it gets over $1 million, you get the 1.0478957e+006 or something similar.

Other than that its good - just a bit easy to be honest - I got to world no 1 by the Madrid Masters of year 2, and since the French Open of year 2, I went 48-2, of which one loss was through having to retire early at Wimbledon (UK Open). In that time I won US Open, 3 of the 4 Masters Series, the Masters Cup and 3 or 4 other tournaments. Maybe some difficulty levels are needed ?

Hi Manutoo!
I'm happy the Alpha 2 is ready.
I'll give you my opinion after I play a while, but it looks great for now.
Thanks!

I read on the French forum, a suggestion of a weekly roundup of news.
I agree with that - a news report, giving the results of the tournament finals, maybe telling you how many events people have won in the year (and career) if they get to a milestone (first title at a tournament level, 5 titles in a year, every 10 career titles, x number of grand slams etc), also give the top few rankings improvers for the week (both entry system and race). Possible also if a player goes over a money total (for the year / career)
Also any injuries that AI players may have.

I'd also like to see news that the top players have committed to playing certain events, or have decided not to play (or cant play) certain big events. I mean if you were ranked 70 in the world, and saw that Fed, Nadal, Roddick etc were all playing at a certain tournament, and there was a choice of event that week with identical money and ranking points available, then you could make a better decision as to which event to play (the other one!).

Also an email telling you when you must play a certain event - slams and masters series, which you have to count towards your rankings. eg once I got good enough to qualify for challengers, I then won my first four of them, moving my ranking to approx 90. This was by about June, so I then have to count Wimbledon and the US Open in my ranking events (in real life), but in the game, you aren't told that and you could continue to just play challengers, winning every one, and get to a very high ranking (20??) without ever playing on the main tour!

All of this would just get you more involved in the game world, rather than feeling like you are playing your own little events and then checking every so often if you are improving your ranking etc.
