Perceived delay between movement and general issue 1.0j

Postby megadam » 03 Sep 2017, 15:23

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone noticed this, but since updating to v1.0j I've found my performances (offiline) to drop to hilarious terrible levels. Like from going to comfortably beating the CPU at Incredible Sub 3-5 (6-3, 6-2 etc) to losing sets 6-0 and barely any winners.

I've noticed that there seems to be a delay between my key presses actually mapping to the movement of the character, I've noticed it in instances where there seems to be delay of my key press moving in a direction to actually getting the character to move. It's very noticeable in my character simply not getting to shots to previously and even when getting there making a notably shanked or worse shot. Really noticeable on return of serve now where I'm simply expecting to get there and it just doesn't happen.

I'd like to be able to test on a previous build but I'm running the steam version currently. When I get back within a week or so I'll attempt to test but it was just really odd that one day I was perfectly fine and then the next I had to look at my keyboard settings and everything to make sure I wasn't going mad as something does feel different.

Computer specs attached!

Hello,

I just did the last "challenge" I did on TE2013, back in April ( => topic15-27740.php ).
I beat the same player with the same settings 6/1 with a double break again, on 1st try instead of the 2nd, so I guess there's no fundamental change.

However, as I did that set at 120hz, after, just to be sure, I tried at 60hz : I got beaten 6/3. I did less aces & the guy was on fire.
Now, if I didn't know the guts of the game, I'd probably say something is wrong with it, but actually, I just played less focused, got a bit unlucky and the winning spirit wasn't on my side... ;)

Anyway, there's a small change in how you see the ball. I'd recommend you to try to set your monitor refresh rate to 75hz (I checked and it seems it's your monitor max refresh rate), maybe it'd help you. At very least, it should look more smooth and thus less tiring on the eyes if you play a long time... :)

I've had the same problem in regards to delay in movement after the update. I'm glad to know it's not just me, at least.

MANAplay,
had you turned on the alternate time polling method ? (by changing TimePolling from 0 to 1 in your Tennis.ini)
If yes, it's strongly recommended to come back to the standard time polling method as the alternate one isn't accurate enough for the smoother rendering to work correctly.

Else, if you had turned off VSync, try to turn it back on.

I hadn't altered the time polling nor had I turned off VSync. Thanks anyway, Manu.

Another thing to check : if you play in Exclude Fullscreen, be sure to have selected your monitor native resolution.

That's not the problem either. Everything was smooth sailing until this most recent update. Unfortunately, with this delayed movement, this has made this great game unplayable for me now. If any solutions are found for anyone having the same troubles as I, please let me know.

MANAplay,
could you try to download & install the demo in "C:\Tennis Elbow 2013" (or any new folder where you have never installed the game before) to be sure it doesn't interfere with any old file and let me know if it changes anything or not ?

I just did a fresh install of the demo, movement seems to be fine there.

Ok, so it must have a setting or a modified file in your previous installation creating the issue. If you manage to locate it, let me know... :fear:

Apologies, only just come back from holiday. I will give the above recommendations a test and let you know. I'll try it on vanilla, ITST and Maxou's Patch (I experienced the problem originally on all 3)

Same problem for me I'm afraid. 2 things to note, ball seems to be blurrier than usual (could just be I haven't played for a week though) and secondly it seems the AI is running overclocked. Like at a heightened speed compared to my character who has better running stats. Sadly it makes it quite unplayable, it seems to take extra key movements just to move to the same shot and as a result generally a poorer shot is played (Above 60% of the shots aren't hit beyond the service line now). While the AI is able to just continually storm winners past.

Let me know what you need to help try and resolve this please :)

UPDATE: Just played some more changing the TimePolling setting to 2 and trying different refresh rates (59hz and 60hz). Its weird, I'll try and get a video next time but post the ball going out of play the player animations seem to be playing at an extreme rapid pace, almost double/triple what it should be. I mean I've seen many examples before where a game has had a change to something like refresh rate having adverse effects on gameplay (Vanquish, damage taken tied to framerate). Just something else I picked up on that might help!

I have the same issue as the OP. Playing on Master - 2. Won my first grand slam va Murray (2013) in four tight sets. Then the patch. I lost to Sousa 6-2 6-2 in first match. Lol ok

Game is unplayable in its current state

megadam ( & TheHip41 ),
game got a couple of updates since last September 3rd, without a change of version. Be sure to manually download & install the latest version.
It's not possible to have faster AI whatever you do (except if you actually change its speed in your tennis.ini ;) ).

So try to do a complete & true fresh install like I told MANAplay above.

Note: 59 hz mode might make the rendering a bit jerky.
