ShoNe vs. Lets Go Bro - 6/7, 3/6

Postby NESXA » 29 Oct 2014, 18:05

Well, it was a great match. Maybe I played better on 250 delay than him, but my return was really bad. I have to improve return and I think my game will be really better. Anyway GL to Lets Go Bro in Paris.

R2: LetsGoBro def. [6]ShoNe 7-6(4), 6-3

Rematch of last week's epic Basel QF. Once again it was very close. And like in Basel when I had a break to serve out the first set, he plays his best to break back. In the tiebreak, it was ridiculously close with several long rallies that I was lucky to come out on top of. And also like in Basel when I had a chance to serve for the match, he plays really good to try and make a comeback. But this time I was lucky to finally hold him off to win the match. It was straight sets, but I can't help feeling like I dodged a bullet here because he plays amazing against me when he is behind. But yeah I have to agree that the return decided the match in key moments.

Anyway, ShoNe, best of luck in your first World Tour Finals appearance! If you keep up this good form since the US Open, you'll have a big chance to win it

Reserve SF: MarkChan def. LetsGoBro 4-6, 6-4, 14-12

I've lost many tight matches this year but this one is probably right up there as one of the most painful ones. Had 3 MP, just couldn't close it out. Mark did well to hang around and spammed my partner like crazy, while I was too passive and made some bad last-minute decisions to hand the initiative back to Mark and that proved ultimately costly. At the end, my partner made some untimely errors to lose me the match. I wouldn't say I was unlucky because Mark was the better player throughout the match and generated many break point opportunities which he didn't take until the 2nd set. Also I've lost a lot of extremely tight deciding set matches this year (both singles and doubles) and that speaks more of my poor mentality and what I'm doing wrong (and what my opponent is doing right), rather than me being unlucky in these tense moments. Many congrats to Mark potentially reaching his first Masters 1000 final and I wish him all the best (provided he gets there). He's an excellent doubles player and certainly way better than I am. He's a good friend of mine so I'm just thrilled for him. As for me, it's a disappointing and sad way to end the season. I need to grow a pair of balls and go back to the drawing board.

Reserve SF MarkChan def. LetsGoBro 4/6 6/4 14-12

It's always a mixed feeling to play with the best friend on tour in official match. And It was such a dramatic game and had so many long rallies. 1st set I struggled with my movement a bit in the beginning. Even when I played better later I couldn't covert the bp chances and he was more consistent.

2nd set he had early break opportunity and if he broke me I might have given up. But I somehow survived and even broke to lead 5-2, finally serving it out at 5-4.

He was leading all the way in MTB and had two mp at 9-7. But I saved them and another one at 11-10 in rallies that could go either way. At last at 13-12 his partner returns a smash out and ended this match which lasted 55mins. An unfortunate way to finish this great match.

Good Luck in the rest of the season if you still sneak in as alternative in WTF.

Dr. Ivo I am coming (if I can win QF)

MarkChen - Maryanucci 6/0 6/0
When I played like this everyone call me spammer.
Doubles where spamming partner is not doubles.
I decide last week to not play anymore doubles. It's a very far from reality.

I don't blame anyone... everyone has the right to play on way that he think is the best.
Yes I played some matches on this way and it was disaster for my opponents so I decide to try play normal.
So in singles you depend solely on yourself (that's the reason why the most of good doubles players are not good in singles), in doubles You are in depend of artificial Intelligence.
I'm not in bad mood because of this, I play doubles only for fun and to practice volleys for singles.
The biggest bug:
You can spam partner with slow spin monoballs very easy. :suicide:

We can still prevent opponents from spamming your partner. It's just that the one thing you shouldn't do is sit on the baseline and do nothing while your partner gets spammed to death. Have to try and intercept it such as swapping positions with your partner on the baseline or approaching the net to block it with volleys. I think what I did wrong on my match points was just being too passive/nervous and not taking these risks and I allowed him to take control. Yes I agree that it's an absolutely disgusting tactic to use to expose the many flaws of the CPU player. Nothing pisses me off more than my CPU doing ridiculous errors every time it attempts a drop-shot volley or a drive volley, or even normal hard volleys. But it's definitely not impossible to stop players from spamming your partner. I just haven't found a better solution for it yet.

Reminder => you can send me your .dmo's showing the CPU issues & shortcomings (and tell me on what scores to check points), I'll try to fix them ; the best is if it happens in the 1st few games of the match.
Note: post them in Bug Report forum (or Tennis Elbow).
