Abolish online tour preview

Postby Berdych's fan » 27 Sep 2011, 13:08

This is my proposal for the future: abolish any preview when playing online tour.

What do you think?

I think it will be more funny, more fair and more realistic.

Do you guys really think changing the preview to fully off will help you beat the Top players?

If so, think again

Always the same old story.
it's not a matter of beating anyone, but a matter of getting fun playing with realistic settings. i don't even play this tour (i played other ones on other tennis games), and honestly i can't even think to play a "competition" using noobish unrealistic arcadish big red/green painted helpers flashing everywhere on the screen.
Can't you for once Stajus understand that there is maybe out there a community of sim players interested to play in such conditions for *pleasure* ? (yes i know we can do it on friendly matches and that's what we are doin', but if any competition, it should probably not use easy settings, but challenging ones).
I don't even care if you can beat everyone in any settings, i'm sure you can, a good player will stay a good player, indeed, and the challenge will be even greater for everyone, top players will stay top players, they will probably adapt quickly, so don't be scared yourself . You don't get the point, unfortunately.

I'm sure such settings would push the competition in a good way, a longer and deeper learning curve, and more skill brackets, lead to rich competition, at least it's my opinion based on my own experience as a mod for a long time on another tennis game online tour ;)

This game with preview off/elite controls is the best sim out there and running the only available TE tour on arcade (yes it is) settings is really a shame, and not doing justice to this game wich should drag a lot more sim players out there.

You, for one, can't tell me what I understand and what I don't understand lol?! I surely understand this game better than you, and infact, I don't even care about the preview much but other things making the game more "challenging" are still a bit flawed and if they're to be used in the future they need to be looked at further (e.g. tiredness). Algo said Elite controls aren't much harder (haven't tried), realistic mode is flawed (too easy for defenders at present), tiredness occurs more when hitting the ball rather than running...

...Now stop assuming that you're Einstein and that no one else here has looked into ways to improve the online tour...

Well i don't assume anything , juste stating my opinion as my opinion, not as some absolute truth mate.
a SIM tour + an Arcade Tour should be the best guess probably (lol).

And i didn't told you that you didn't understood the game, but our point. In fact every time someone is posting about adding or changing some (yes some arcadish) setting in the rules, you just come off arguing with offending remarks like these people are just lowbies thinking how this would help them beat top players. Just an observation. And although i'm a player my point of view is more from a ladder admin sight, right, because i have some extensive experience with it, but i don't assume my opinion is the only valid one, though i can discuss it without judging others opinon based on their ranking (use your brain ?).

The point is these settings have been discussed before.......that's the main and essential point...lol...In the future some changes will happen as always, but something imperfect shouldn't be used within the Tour...

Re: Abolish online tour preview

Removing Preview in Online Tour has never been discussed in the Forum, for the very reason that it was not a separate setting till the latest 1.0c version. So I find it quite interesting to see some people raising this question lately.

On a realistic POV (ie: in real life), I never heard of player hitting the ball hard to make their opponent tired ; when they strike accelerations, they just try to out speed their opponent.
On the opposite, I saw a lot of defenders not hitting hard & running all around and killing physically their power baseliner opponent (clay being of course the best surface for this, as on other surfaces it's harder to catch the accelerations).
If you want to make your opponent tired, you just play left/right without taking risk.
So the Tiredness system is already quite realistic, and most of the players playing the offline World Tour (and that are way way more numerous than the Online Tour players) use that settings without complaining about it.

Totally agree. You said it so well.

I could lose all games, it's not a problem.

Just ask my opponents on tour: winning matches is not my first goal.

It's an online game: nobody wins money, nobody wins girls. Each tennis elbow's player has a real life and a real job. We are here for fun (I think, this is my case).

Instead I believe that those who play with preview are more focused on winning matches.

So I think that preview on online tour is really a shame. Playing without it is more fun, more fair, more realistic and it has the tendency to improve player's skill. It is also a matter of justice to me: only playing with same settings each match we can see who deserves to be n. 1, n. 20 n. 234, etc. It's not so good to play sometimes with all + danger, sometimes with ball preview, sometimes only service.

however, it's only my opinion.

I'm happy to see there are many peoples who agree with me.

Hope we can realize this option for future.

Thanks all

"Instead I believe that those who play with preview are more focused on winning matches."

Hmm, what is wrong with you? When both players have preview in an online match, no one is at a disadvantage. Stop spewing crap for God's sake...

Similarly, if both don't have preview in the future, it's fair to both.

I bet you guys are from Dee Ehm Tee

P.S. Without preview, excellent drop shots will be problematic - I mean, overpowered ;)

Last Stajus' statement is correct : playing without any preview is like playing on a real court while closing 1 of your eyes => you'll lose most of your depth detection and that make quite harder to guess where certain shots will fall, like the drop shot.
