The Chouzana Challenge

Postby oohzuzana » 11 Aug 2009, 09:21

The Chouzana Challenge is an incredible, innovative, invitation-only tournament being played by 6 of the top TE players in the game.

There is a twist though. The matches (one set only, grass) must be played with the players following certain rules:

-0% Forehand Power
-0% Backhand Power
-0% Service Power
-0% Smash
-0% Top Spin
-100% on all other skills
-All participants must wear red shoes for all matches.
-Matches should be recorded.

Each player will play the other five players once. The player with the best record as determined by W-L then Games Won (with 7's counting only for six and tiebreak losses counting for 5.5) will advance to the final. The second and third place players will play in the only semifinal, with the winner of that match advancing to the final to play for the coveted Chouzana Chalice.

Round Robin : Zuzana Ondraskova def. Togtdyalttai 7-6 (10-8)

This was a roller coaster of a match that hearkened back to the nailbiters Tog and I used to play in 2006.

I sprinted out to an 0-2, 0-40 lead to start the match, which probably stunned Tog but stunned me more. He saved all the break points, and eventually broke at 3-2 to level the match at 3-3.

I managed to hang in until the tiebreak, where I raced out to an incredible 5-1 start, and got a look at four match points at 6-2. But Tog saved all four, and made it five points in a row to get a match point of his own at 7-6. I saved that one, and his next one at 8-7. I got my fifth match point at 9-8, and got a little lucky on it as the ball skidded just past a stationary Tog.

Hell of a match, and a great example of the kind of cerebral play that the Chouzana format can cause. I never expected to win, even up 6-2 ( :blackeye:), because Tog had won all of our practice matches pretty easily. I'm excited to see if I can keep any of this momentum

Zuzana Ondraskova def. S.Williamz 7-5

That was a lot more fun that I expected! I thought I did alright. I felt I had many opportunities cuz I had leads but he changed his tactics so many times I simply could not keep up. lol

I watched this match:
Zuzana Ondraskova def. Togtdyalttai 7-6 (10-8).
It was great. Togtdyalttai worked hard to even the tie break, and that was nice to watch.

I don't understand, though, why the statistics for the two players is different. If you all applied the settings as described in this post, why do Togtdyalttai's and Zuzana Ondraskova's skills differ:

Togtdyalttai:
Forehand 58%
Backhand 58%
Forehand Volley 100%
Backhand Volley 100%
Smash 50%
1st Service & 2nd Service 66%
Form 100%
Overall 1121%

Zuzana Ondraskova:
Forehand 62%
Backhand 62%
Forehand Volley 94%
Backhand Volley 94%
Smash 47%
1st Service & 2nd Service 62%
Form 94%
Overall 1099%
?

Yeah this was a really great match :D. I kept changing my tactics mostly because I could never figure out what i wanted to do :p. It was only in the last game where i remembered what had worked so well for me against S. Edberg, lol, I wonder how it would have gone if I had started playing that way earlier...
