Hello Manutoo,
** Can you please clarify what I should do (as detailed as your valuable time allows). I think this would be a good thing to add to the 'How to mod' post you have since I have searched and couldn't find any clear answers on the subject.

I recently began playing with a modified patch of Tennis Elbow, created by Dilima (similar to SamsPatch). I am having problems when trying to update the game when you release an update (like the most recent one). I tried asking Dilima on his post on his patch and he wasn't sure. I got a reply from ComeonANDY saying I should just download the update to my TE Folder with the modified patch and then I shouldn't have to do anything else. If that is the case, I don't know how to download just the update.

Here is what I currently do and the resulting problems:
Before I played with a modified patch; it was easy to update the game because obviously there was just your version to update. I just clicked on the link in your post for the most recent version of the game (https://www.managames.com/download.php?TE2011_fe10f.exe ~37MB [Permanent direct download link to the latest version]). But when I choose that option since playing with the modified patch or the option for the 'Patch' download(Patch for all versions since v1.0d Build 80 => 1.0f Build 96 - SubBuild 2012.12.17 : (download the Patch if you don't want to download the Demo again) it downloads a brand new tennis elbow.exe, config.exe and the unmodified games data, menu, profiles, etc. folders in my TE folder that already has the same folders and documents as the ones from my modified patch (obviously with different information contained within because it's a modified patch)

It seems that I cannot get the updated game version which is coded somewhere in the new entries that are added to my TE Folder after doing your update to 'communicate' with the ones that already exist from the patch. If I just copy the folders from the modified patch to replace the ones that are downloaded to the TE folder after your newest version download; doesn't that just erase any updates you made to the game and make me play with the version I had before the newest version download? The whole thing is very confusing to me since I have a modified patch. How do I get only the updates you make to the game while using Dilima's patch?

"How to update a Modded game when a official update is released ?
Normally, you should just have to do this :
- install the latest official version (either with the demo or the patch) over your current installation folder
- re-install the Mod you installed at 1st
- re-select your Profile, if you created one
- saved games should still work ; in case of strangely bundled Mod, it may not work, though"

Just as a follow-up; I saw the above 'bolded' excerpt in your 'How to mod' post before I posted my inquiry. I get that the above instructions work when you play with YOUR original version of the game and just modify a few simple things in the game like the the players.ini files, courts, etc. But I don't see how that would work when you play with a comprehensive patch version like Dilima's or Sams because pretty much every folder/subfolder is modified from the folder information that goes in to the TE folder after downloading your update.

I guess most of my confusion stems from not knowing where the updates you put in to the game go when we download the update. Are they contained within the config.exe, the system.log, tennis.ini, all of the above, depends on the update, etc.) are they in the config.exe only? If not, it seems that when I would copy the old modified patch from Dilima in to the new folder that comes after your update; it would remove any of the updates from the game... but I would have to do that to get his patch back since obviously your update does not contain his comprehensive patch.

For example; if your update is coded in the system.log; since Dilima's system.log is different because of the mod's he's put in; I would need to copy his over the one that generates from your update, but wouldn't that just override the update I'm trying to implement?

When you download the update from you in to the same folder that contains the completely modified patch; it gives you a new tenniselbow.exe and config.exe with corresponding data, menu, sounds, profiles, etc. folder (Obviously the folder already contains all of those fields including the config and enniselbow you used before the update). to get the patch back in to the newly updated game; do you use the new tenniselbow.exe and config.exe that downloads with your update and just copy all of the older data, sounds, etc. folders in to the ones that generate from your download or does that cancel out the update I was originally trying to install?

I know I'm making this confusing, so any clarity will help me

most data updates are contained within Data\Pak1.Pak (for the demo) and Pak2.Pak (for the official patch) ; code updates are contained in TennisElbow.Exe .
If the Mod you're using is correctly bundled, it shouldn't contain any of these files ; if it contains them, then delete them from the Mod and keep official ones.
But if the Mod changed a thing that is updated in the latest official update, then you'll lose that official updated thing by re-applying the Mod ; often, it'll be ok, and sometimes it'll create bugs.
