Time is come to decide system for the next 2 (or 1) season in tennis elbow.
Please read this whole post before voting, and/or see discussion topic here: topic13-1761.php

First option - 6 months based season (2 season per year)
Is based on facts.
We have barely 30 active players at one moment.
Small tournaments in older system would be mostly useless. (any changes there in old system will lead to this 6 months idea)
New players will have more chances to achieve some things quicker because of 2 seasons per year

Biggest flaw of this system for some users is not following real ATP calendar and lower number of smaller tournaments

In 6 months season there would be:
4 Grands slams (each one will last 10 days)
8 Masters (+ final masters cup) - or whatever will be called in next season
12 small tournaments with possibly of 24 small tournaments - two tournaments per week based (it depends about number of players that will be active at particular time)
-> 6 of them (small tournaments) will be counted for rankings
-> Each player is only allowed to play on 9 small tournaments

Second option - 11 months season (following ATP)

Well, most of us know that system very well so it doesn't need lots of describing. If chosen there will be some changes regarding small tournaments. (bigger number of small tournaments will be counted than in RL)
It will follow real ATP calendar.
New players will have more chances to show themselves on small tournaments, but not to have chances to achieve something that soon.

Biggest flaw of this system for some users is that is too long (because of number of small players that are active), not dynamic and possibility of some players not playing till the end of the season (like it happened in this years tournaments)


Voting

Every player that cast a vote must post a comment with nickname included for what he voted for, so that we can see that no one is cheating by clicking multiple times or making multiple accs or something similar.
If you vote on poll, and do not post, your vote will not be counted.

If for some reason you change your mind, and you want to change your vote, you can do it by just clicking on some of the options...but also you must post a comment that you changed your vote.
If you do not post that you changed your mind, only votes from posts will be counted.

I just want to say what would be the best solution in my idea, if it didn't have 2 quite bad points :
You should run in phase with the ATP calendar, coz I guess a good bunch new players will be more excited to find out they can compete in the tournament they are just currently watching on TV... Also, it'd allow regulars players to take more easily a week or 2 off, when they are away of their PC (for work, study, holidays, etc...) .
The rankings should be done on past 52 weeks, counting ~18 tournaments (4GS + 8MS + 1MC + 5 others), as well as the 8 players selection for the year-end Masters, but the seeding shouldn't be done from the yearly ranking. It should be a special mixture so new players could raise quickly. Maybe the seeding could be done with only the best 5 tournaments, or something like that. So new good players could get a decent seeding within 2 months (depending a bit if there are big tournaments or not in this period).

And here the 2 big bad points :
- it'll give more work to the Mods to keep 2 different tracks for the Seeding & the Ranking
- it'll make confused new players (and likely old ones as well ) about why they get seeded in such way

Manutoo, I wish you would come up with more ideas like this! The main problem I have with the 1 season per year IS the seedings. That's why I supported Zuzana's idea. But I like this idea much better because it updates seedings even faster and surface differences don't make as much of a difference. What I mean by that is that, since the first half of the year has a bunch of tournaments on slower surfaces but the second half has a bunch of tournaments on faster surfaces the players who play well on slow surfaces would be ranked well one half and those who play well on fast surfaces would be ranked better the other half of the season.

About it being more work for the mods, I think the solution is to divide and conquer. If there are enough people working on it, this idea could definitely work better than the current system. If I can be of any help, I volunteer myself, though my time is quite limited during school.
