Who has the best serve?

Postby Togtdyalttai » 05 Aug 2009, 00:06

Unlike, Richou's topic about single-handed backhands, this one's about a much more important and useful shot. Who do you think has the best serve in the game? And in saying so, I guess you have to choose what's most important in a serve. Is it placement (Federer)? Is it the ball coming down from the stratosphere (Karlovic)? Or is it sheer power (Roddick)? Frankly I don't think you could make an argument for anyone other than these three, but if you can, all power to you.

i haven't seen many matches from Karlovic, so for me it's only between Federer and Roddick, I rather have a perfect placement of the ball than hitting over 240 km/h so my vote goes to Federer

Roger Federer has a good Serve and we was almost to beat the World Record of Ivo Karlovic (55 aces) in the match against Andy Roddick (5/7 7/6 7/6 3/6 16/14) and Ivo Karlovic made many aces against Lleyton Hewitt but this is one of a big problem with Hewitt to return good services it's very difficult for him.
But I voted Andy Roddick because he did a 249 km/h witch is 152 mph and I never see a service like this before!

Tog, tennis is not only strenght. Roger always has a high percentage of 1st serves and his service is the most precise on the tour, so for me he has the best serve.

The thing is, Karlovic has precision as well. You can't get that many aces with just power. And serving is definitely not only precision.

Re: Who has the best serve?

Yes but... Federer is leading 9-1 the head to head against Karlovic... and Karlovic's serve is more stronger that Federer's and these are the statistics:

Karlovic - Fed
1° serve: 67% - 62%
1° serve won: 85 - 79
2° serve won: 54 - 57
Service games won: 92 - 90
Break points saved: 71 - 67

Fed is closer than Karlovic with his service...

I don't have an opinion right now, but here is an interesting quote from Andy Roddick following his recent 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) win against Ivo Karlovic in Washington:

"You're at his mercy on his first serve. I was feeling good about my chances on his second serve tonight. There is no way to mimic his serve in practice. You try to deal with it and just put it in play, and that is what I did tonight."
