Roddick's choice.

Postby kyuuji » 23 Feb 2009, 14:02

What do you think about Roddick's choice ?
He retired for Dubai ATP because of the problem with Shahar Peer.
Shahar Peer from Israel was excluded from the WTA Tournament in Dubai, she couldn´t enter the United Arab Emirates because of her nationality.
The WTA punished the Tournament with 300.000 US-Dollars.
Roddick said that was politic not sport!

I love his choice. I'd like to see more players boycott Dubai for the same reason. Players simply should not be excluded from a tournament because of their country.

I was never a Roddick fan because I don't like his on-court attitude toward the umpires. And I always rooted against him. However, I rooted for him - for the first time - against Stepanek because of his decision about the Dubai tournament. On one hand, I am proud that he did this. On the other, I have nothing against Dubai. I think the organizers understand that this cannot be done, and they corrected the matter regarding Andy Ram, which I applaud. So I appreciate Dubai correcting the matter, and hope the tournament continues to be held there, because it is a good venue and the people there are good. It was just a poor decision regarding Shahar, and I am glad it was corrected (for Ram). Everyone deserves a second chance. I don't think this tournament deserves being boycotted, because of the reversal regarding Ram's allowance, but, as a Jew, I am proud of Roddick nevertheless. He is more mature than I thought he was. Still, his on-court behavior...we'll see haha.

Im not a big Roddick fan.
But that being said, i think boycotting dubai was a a great deed, and as roddick rightly said, its politics not sport, it shouldnt interfere

It's a nice gesture...

But, the cynic in me thinks that after he made the final in Memphis, he didn't want to travel half way around the world, and then do so again for IW.
