Davis Cup question

Postby Tom Paulman » 19 Aug 2012, 10:50

Hi,

I have two questions about Davis Cup. The first thing that is bothering me the most is the selection of a doubles partner. I am in a doubles team with a player from my country and we are the best two ranked players in the country. However, for Davis Cup, I always get some lower ranked player that I'm not used to play with. Why does it happen and is there a way to fix it and play with my normal partner?

The second question is about surface. How is surface chosen and can I choose it myself sometimes? ;) Sometimes the choice is illogical because for example, now I'm playing the first round of Davis Cup in February and it's Russia-Czech Republic - the surface that was chosen is outdoor hard. If you think it's possible, you should visit Czech Republic or Russia in February, LOL

Sorry if these questions were aleready asked, I haven't been on this forum for a long, long while.

I have to agree with that manu... For some countries, doubles players and even singles players are not chosen logically: I have not seen for example Monfils (nor Gasquet!!! Which is also a top player) to play with France in 2011 or 2012 although he is always the 2nd best french player. For doubles, even more weird, Llodra is chosen of course, but always along a player named Grenier??? (I checked doules ranking and saw manyyyy french doubles player were better ranked).
This doubles problem also occurs with Russia sometimes with a player (forgot his name)

Tom Paulman,
the players are selected according their current year strength, which can be different from their actual rankings.
Doubles specialists are favored for doubles & unfavored for singles.
If you think the selected player is really too weak, you can send me your saved games around the Davis Cup so I'll have a look at them.

Ground is selected totally randomly, with lower chances for the grass.

Thanks for your reply, manutoo. However, I don't think that the player who got chosed for doubles (Tomas Cibulec) is stronger than my standard doubles partner (Lukas Dlouhy), who is also higher ranked. He has weaker shots, weaker return and makes more errors. Secondly, I don't get why I simply can't choose a player that I'd like to play with, even if he's not the best player available. I suggest this as a new feature for the next version ;) Is there a way to fix my doubles partner manually, for exaple rewrite a part of saved game file?

Tom Paulman,
if you're an Hex edition export, you can try to fiddle the saved game, but it'd be easier to change the strength (ie: his RankPerYear) of your assigned partner.
I checked and both Lukas Dlouhy & Tomas Cibulec are doubles specialist, and depending of the year one is better of another & vice versa.
