different court strategies

Postby adhocrat » 12 Jul 2012, 13:01

Hey,

I've never played tennis in RL so my knowledge of different strategies for each court is somewhat limited. I was wondering if some more experienced players had any advice in this regard? I get the basics - clay is slow, grass is fast with everything else in between - but aside from that it's been something of trial and error for me... I'm playing more defensively on clay, using more slice shots and only switch to flat/acceleration when I've got the time to set the shot up, drop shots seem to work better on clay as well (?) on other surfaces I'm pursuing a more aggressive approach (more flats/acceleration) looking for winners as opposed to forcing opponent errors. Still haven't worked out how to use top spin effectively either (although it seems to work well on second serve?)

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Cheers

Hello,

very briefly :
- fast surface : lot of accelerations, and/or net rushes
- medium surface : many accelerations, and a bit of net play
- slow surface : a lot of topspin to push your opponent away ; only efficient accelerations, coz it's easier to defend so if you do a so so acceleration, it'd be just wasted
