Some questions on the game

Postby dreamseller188 » 12 Jun 2012, 13:50

Hi,

I'm interested in buying the game, but I'm a little confused and have a few questions.

1- I'm looking for a game where I can sort of simulate tennis seasons far into the future. Which game would be best for this - Tennis Elbow or Tennis Elbow Manager? What are the main differences between the two games?

2- I'm looking for a game where I can use real players and kinda sim many years in advance to see how things play out.

3- I read somewhere that the game only lasts until 2025. Is this true? That would be a bit of a deal-breaker with me, as I'd like to sim results much further than this.

4- Is there a kind of owner/president mode where you can oversee the tour and just see the results as time goes on, without having to actually play/control the matches?

Hope that makes sense. If anyone's not sure what I'm looking for here - just wondering if any of the Tennis Elbow games are like a tennis version of Football Manager, OOTP Baseball or WMMA3? A sports sim where we're owners and control the action.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Hello,

1- both can do that ; TE2011 will force you to enter 1 tournament per year at least (but you can refuse to enter to the qualies when it's time to play) ; and in TEM, you'll have to click the "Next Week" button every week (and activate a special DevMode to avoid to get a warning every time you click on it coz you didn't fully train that week) ; except that, the Tour simulation engine is identical on both games, but TE2011 lets you watch CPU vs CPU matches in realtime if you want to, where TEM has only the score simulation ; the 2 don't exactly match though, so for simulating the Tour with accurate results, it's better to use only the score simulation

2- both games can do that

3- yes, the player bases end in 2025 ; you can add more years if you want ; it's not very easy, but it's not complicated, just long if you do that manually

4- see #1

Thanks for getting back to me manutoo.

That clears up a lot, but I am still a little confused. Which game would you most recommend for what I need to do? Which game has the best mods for this purpose? I'm edging towards TEM?

You mentioned that the player bases end in 2025. What exactly does that mean? Could you give me an idea of the kind of programming I'd need to do in order to extend the game past 2025? Has it ever been done before?

Could you also link me to a user mod that you think would be best for doing what I want to achieve?

Thanks,

Cannot help answer your questions as such, but I'm finding myself somewhat interested in this thread!

I play Football Manager, and so I am vaguely understanding what you're after - I'm thinking of re-gen players, players going on to be coaches etc when I say this.

I've only been a user of TE for a matter of days, but I have managed to install a fantastic modpack for the game quite easily which is full of real players and the real graphics to match!

Here's waiting to see where this topic goes :)

dreamseller188,
both games share the same simulation engine for the Tour, but TEM will let you see all player skills, where TE2011 hides a good bunch of them, so I guess TEM is a better choice.
Note that the strength of each player is determined for each year (this is called RankPerYear), it's not random. If you add more years, you'll have to enter that RankPerYear by yourself. It's not programming, it's just editing a text file, though.

The bases ending at 2025 means there's no RankPerYear anymore for the following years, so nothing can happen. Also, there's no automatic generation of new players, you'll have to create them.
anaum91 seems to have managed to extend the bases ; you can see a lot of topics from him here : forum11.php .

You don't need any Mod to simulate future results. SamPatch may contain more accurate real player skills, though.

Thanks for the response manutoo.

So all the mods I see will work on both TE2011 and TEM?

Creating all the players and assigning a RankPerYear for everyone seems a little daunting. I've played a lot of similar sports sim games that have an option that creates new players as you progress through the years - normally called regeneration. Any plans for this as a patch or something? Seems like an integral part of a sports sim to me.

Thanks,

dreamseller188,
Players.ini are always compatible between the 2 games ; Tour.ini not always, coz the courts handling isn't exactly same.

Most people don't like to play in fictive years ; having manually created the new players of these years gave me more controls over the difficulty level ; it's easier to check everything is alright ; and it makes handling of saved games way simpler ; so all in all, it's a better solution than a random real-time regen.

"Changed End" problem. I don't want to play being on the top of the screen, i just like to play on the bottom of it, but the net turn around when changed ends ( 1-0, 2-1, etc ). How to disable net turn around? Look the picture ( http://kep.ivpicture.hu/672450.N.jpg ). Thanks.

Peti91,

1- in video options, you can set shadow to circle

2- in camera options, set Ends to Auto
