Counter the CPU and volleys with "elite" controls

Postby Lucian86 » 21 May 2012, 15:33

@Manutoo

Don't know if you agree with me but I find that it's very very difficult to counter the CPU. Actually I don't remember seing the CPU wrong footed like it happens with me very often. I play at incredible level (sublevel 1) for the precision. If the ball is at the center of the baseline and comes up slowly, I should be able to counter the CPU many times (don't know the exact percentage but it's easy to measure that watching a couple of real life games)

The second issue is about the volleys; I like coming to net very much and I like playing with the elite controls...I still find it very difficult to control the volleys in this situation. I know the game is now different and volleys aren't so effective as it once was but happens to me that I miss very easy volleys that I should IMO place wherever I want in the court; happens also with slice volleys.
For the precision, I like seeing only the mark of the ball in the court after being hit (so I don't like to see the mark before the stroke). I know that may be one of the reasons I miss a lot but still, it shoudn't be that easy to miss I think.
My opinion is that they're too sensitive, even for very easy volleys to hit.

Hello,

in next update, it may be a bit easier to get the CPU wrong footer (so will the human player, coz it's a physics change, not a AI change).

On volleys, you do left/right mistakes ? Or net / too long ones ..?

Great !!

About the volleys, definitely the errors are about left and right mistakes; I should have specified this...nothing seems to be wrong about the ball being too long or too short on the net (actually, doesn't go in the net very often)

Ok, so I guess you're mainly disturbed by the high sensitivity of left/right aiming while at the net, but it's needed coz most of times when volleying, you have very little time to react & aim.

What, what? Further encouraging guessers? :fear: :fear: :fear: :fear: :fear: :fear: :fear: :fear: :fear: :fear: No need
Lol, controlling volleys is fine...at least with Simulation controls ;)

Even if I have enough time to hit the ball, it's still very easy to miss it with the Elite controls. Of course, I could put the ball in the court if I want but in a situation like this, a volleyer tries to close the point and this is not easy in TE

Since I'm talking about Elite controls, I don't think is that relevant.
Try it and you'll see that's much more difficult

Manutoo, is there a trick to keep the "elite" controls overall but to have "simulation" controls for the volleys ? like changing fastly something in the code ? it's only for the off-line game of course

Maybe you could let us control the sensitivity of volleys? Like put the ability to modify it in the tennis.ini file. After TE2006, I always thought volleys were way too sensitive, even on volleys and overheads where the CPU hits a slow shot and I have a lot of time.

Lucian86,
I just did a quick check, and the difficulty at net with Elite controls seemed to be in par with the one from the baseline, except maybe when we stick to the net ; but when standing 2-3m away from it, it felt alright.

[b]Brad1981[/b,
if I lower the aiming sensitivity, we won't be able to aim left/right far enough on our opponent fast passing shots, thus making the aiming risk free.
