Counter Style and Other Styles -> My Ideas

Postby Somebody Someone » 04 Mar 2012, 20:43

I was somehow inspired by the discussion about Counters.
Hm... is Counter Style overpowered? Maybe, hard to say becouse i have only a demo. But I think Manutoo should think about other styles. I think generally that playing styles should be more diversed. I've got some ideas. For example:

- "Volleyer" should have also bonus in serve (better precision, faster serve). I think its realistic becouse generally players who plays good at the net also have great serve (better than the others)

- "Defender" should have also bonus in speed. He should run faster than the others. I think its realistic too.

- "Power Baseliner" should hit most powerful strokes - if max speed of stroke now is 162km/h (correct me if im wrong); Power Baseliner should hit the ball at 175km/h (for example) BUT he should have also penalty in speed - he should be slower than the others.

- "Varied" player, hm... I think he could be the most technican player in the game. I think he could have a bonus in slice or/and drop shot, lob, etc. He should be improved IMO.

I think diverse is what makes game really fun. Counter Style is really improved and quite original compared to the others - and I think thats nothing wrong about it. I just think that other styles should be also improved and should be more specific and unique.

I've got another idea. It would be great to see each player with additional, unique bonus - beside playing style. Just like it works in Top Spin 4. Three or four unique skills -> "Passing shot", "Better return of serve", "Better Drop Volley", "Better Smash", "Slice with more spin", etc, etc. That would make each player unique and makes matches against different players (with different playing style and additional skills) really interesting. You could make your Defender or Counter or Basliner in several ways.
And I think it would be good to make a Technician player style (beside Various player, who could be a resultant of different styles) who could have abilities like:

- slice with more spin, better drop shot, better lob, better angles and precision with normal strike BUT weaker acceleration and weaker maximum strike (not 162km/h but maybe 155km/h).

Hope you'll like my ideas ;)

Im not sure I agree with everything you said I agree with some. I believe you have to make in between players then example I play liek im the real Serena Williams and she fall in between Power Baseline player and she can be a great counter also. So it wouldn't be fair to have power baseliner and can't move because as we all know Serena Williams and Venus Williams can both run for days and counter at the same time. You can even put Kim Clijseters in that category to.

Of course you are right. My idea was not to make Power Baseliner slow like turtle :P Just a bit slower than other styles. Don't forget about bonus in max stroke (it could be 175km/h but of course it could be more or less), so average stroke speed by 'PB' would be also faster. More powerful strokes would compensate slower speed (thats my main idea).

BUT if you want to play a "Serena Williams-like" player (i mean player with powerful strokes but also with good speed and nice attack at the net) that could be a "Puncher". Puncher would be a style between Power Baseliner and Various or between Power Baseliner and Volleyer. It could have more bonuses than it have now:

- better volleys, better precision of acceleration (but not speed) and maybe bonus to returning the serve or/and passing shot?

Ok, so here is my full concept (modificated a bit)

Counter: is Ok in my opinion.

Defender: speed bonus

Volleyer: bonus in - precision, angle and speed of serve and volleys, drop volley, smash, etc. Penalty in precision when playing from baseline (in every aspect: normal strike, slice, acceleration).
Interesting player IMO. He could win easier when serving (serve & volley) but it would be harder for him to make a break.

Technician: bonus in - precision and angle of normal attack, spin and rotations of slice, drop shot, lob. Penalty in speed of acceleration and maximum stroke speed (155km/h less or more).
Nice 'counter to Counter' IMO. Precision and angle more important than power.

Power Baseliner: bonus in - average speed of strokes and maximum speed of stroke (175km/h more or less). Plus bonus in serve return and passing shot. Penalty in speed and penalty in precision when near the net.

Puncher: bonus in - power of volleys, precision and angle of accelerations

Various: (my new idea) - every player could choose 3 or 4 skills from the skill list and make their own player. Skill list include: "passing shot", "return serve", "spin of slice", etc.
