Doubles too easy

Postby MBM » 23 Mar 2011, 16:06

While I'm really having to work hard to get up the rankings on Incredible level 7 in singles, I have yet to lose a match in doubles after 240 matches!

1- It's because the player at the net doesn't cover the down-the-line shot enough so I just play from the baseline and hit winner after winner.
2- Also when the player at the baseline is moved out of court, the player at the net doesn't move across far enough to stop me just smacking the ball with no direction (down the middle) for winner after winner.

It's frustrating that it's so easy when singles is so difficult.

In fact in those 240 matches I have conceded just 3 sets and win the majority of matches with the loss of just a game or two.

Is this something that other people have noticed? And to Manu, is it something that you have considered looking at?

PS. Unlike a lot of people I think the latest update has made the best version of TE2011 ever!! So a big thank you to you :D

Hello,

I'm not a big Doubles fan, so I never played in Doubles enough to get good at it & notice AI failures.
In the past years, I did several sets though, due to bug hunting & some requests to improve AI, and I actually enjoyed them, though I'm still not too good... ;)

Anyway, if you provide feedback, I can likely improve that specific points.

1- does it happen all the time ..? Moving the player waiting position by 10-20cm closer of the lane would help to resolve this issue..?
2- in this case, you'd like the net player to move closer of the center ? If he does so, wouldn't he be even more vulnerable to down-the-line shots..?

Heya thanks for responding.

1 - Yes I think that would improve it alot. I accept that if I'm outside the court and hit down the line, in real life the opponent probably couldnt get a racket on it, but for when I hit straight down it, even the players with 100 in all volley skills can't get to it...ever! So 20cm should make it a bit more challenging.

2 - I don't think I explained correctly. If I am at the baseline on the right with my partner at the net on the left, I've pushed the opponent in front of me to the baseline so there is a gap to hit a fh cross-court winner behind the other opponent at the net. In that case, you would expect the opponent at the net to move over a little bit to cover the centre of the court (although maybe that would be anticipation which might be hard to program... )

3- Also (I have no clue how game programming works and how hard this would be so sorry if it is unfeasible), would it be possible in a standard doubles setup (deuce court players at the baseline, ad court players at the net) and if the baseline players are in a fh groundies exchange, for one of the net players to poach?

I noticed this a long long time ago on World Tour (I don't understand your explanation tbh, but I was passing constantly DTL). Now I'm No1 on the online tour in doubles and I can tell you that you won't pass anyone's partner so easily from the baseline (obviously, they have high net stats)...It's just that those World Tour players have low stats...or are miscoordinated (2 CPUs).

Volleyers with all 100 in volley skills can't get it? Or maybe it's something with 2 CPUs not being coordinated...Well, add me on msn and show me this, we'll play a doubles match ;) stajus@hotmail.com

0- I think Stajus is right ; World Tour doubles players are not strong enough, coz most of them get strong from the "Double Spirit" skill which isn't used in the real-time match..!
I'll add something to raise their net skills according to their Double Spirit in v1.0b

2- Ok, I think I got it ; example: if only 1 player is at net, on left part of the court, and the opponent on right part of the court is going to strike the ball, that net player should move to the center a tiny bit

3- everything is doable in programming so feel free to ask ;) The problem is often to do it without bad side effects, though... :fear:
From 2-, if the players at net move slightly to the center, they might get opportunity to intercept the ball... I'll see how it goes by then.
