Short players?

Postby milos » 12 Jan 2011, 00:15

Ok, after playing this game since its very start (and I mean before manutoo took over), I think I am aligible to emphasize one really silly thing in this game: and that is these small players. I really think it is quite unfair that these small players have these extra skills just because they are small. I mean in reality they might be faster and quicker around the court then a taller person, but there is no way that they can have as good serves, or as powerful ground strokes as a taller player. So I think an extra speed is ok, but the power of shots is just way to strong for them. this will become the game of midget players. Mostly i think an average player would want to have a avrerage sized player, or a taller one for serve - volley play, but these small players are just way to powerful, and a lot otherwise not so good players are expoiting this bonus.
Manutoo, just think about this, for any future updates.

Hello,

my answer, from here viewtopic.php?p=15066#p15066 :
Player Speed:
The max speed is 30km/h when u have 100% in Speed, whatever ur height is.
For a tennis pro, this is very fast, but it's far to be inhumanely fast, coz top sprinters can reach ~40km/h (but without holding a racket ;) ).
To run from left lane line to right lane line takes ~0.05s less for a 1m55 height player compared to a 2m player. That's not exactly a lot faster...
The "huge" difference of speed perceived is mainly due to the difference in player size ; ie: this is an optical illusion due to the ratio of speed / size. This ratio is 30% bigger for the 2m high player, thus the perceived relative speed is 30% smaller. And his legs also moves 30% slower, reinforcing the optical illusion... :)

Since I wrote this, the maximum speed has been lowered to 29km/h ; 0.05s ~= 40cm at that speed.

And being smaller means also :
- you cover less well at the net & get lobbed more easily
- your serve rebounds less high (coz it thrown from less high) so your opponent can return closer from the baseline and/or with less precision/speed handicap
- you're more annoyed by very high top spin balls

I think all in all it's a fair trade.
And I already said in the past, if the height bonus/handicaps were totally realistic, then everybody would be 1m85, like Federer, Nadal & Sampras are.

PS: just out of curiosity, when and how I took over ..?
