Context-sensitive action button, needed or not ?

Postby manutoo » 17 Jun 2023, 16:07

Hello,

after some thought, I think the context-sensitive action button might not be really needed.

Here its possible uses I had thought of in the past, and why there are not needed anymore :
1) Sprint : the player now always accelerates his run at his max so this wouldn't bring much, especially for people having a controller with an analog stick that allows them to run slower if wanted
2) Drive volley : now it almost never triggers anymore, wanted or not, and using the topspin strike button to do one would be good enough if I ever want the possibility to exist
3) Turn around the forehand to do a backhand (and vice-versa) : this would avoid a silly transition animation, but gameplay-wise, it doesn't bring anything

Moreover, it could lead to deep gameplay changes that may upset the people who already bought & played the game for a long time (eg: the sprint), so it's risky to add it now. :fear:

If you'd still like to see a context-sensitive action button, please let me know what you'd like it to do.

EDIT:
4) Tell our doubles partner to play the ball (can be useful in some extreme cases where the ball is on our side, but we cannot reach it while our partner could)

Hi Manu!
Hmm I can't think of a context-sensitive button that affects gameplay, only visual candies that are not really necessary (for me anyway, considering there should be other priorities) for now.

I remember back in the day top spin had a button to strike and then rush to the net, that's the only one I can think of, but then again, not really needed considering you can do this on your own.

I voted maybe, from your suggestions I think the turn around is the best one but I can already tell it's not easy to implement and could lead to complications animation wise. I don't like at all the idea of sprinting, this will just force us to have that button pressed all the time.

Using the topspin strike button for the drive volley would be alright. I myself think the drive volley should be added to the game.

I like the third possibility where we can use the button for inside out shots

Just no. Was one of the worst parts of the top spin games. If you want to go inside out or inside in, run around the ball! A button makes things unnecessarily awkward.

I'm satisfied with the current gameplay and feel that it works like real tennis.
At least, I feel TE is the best "tennis" game right now.

If there is only one possibility, it is idea #3.
And I think it could be arranged to be a little easier to implement.

I think most people who want the inside-out feature actually want to avoid the "silly transition animation" rather than going around and hitting the ball itself. Therefore, I feel that implementing it as a "button that temporarily disables Safe Strike while pressed" would satisfy these people's requests.

If you want this feature to change the gameplay, how about the effect that while using this feature, the speed of movement is increased "just a little bit" and the Auto-positioning is weakened or disabled? This means that it will be important to find the optimal hitting point on our own.

hi guys
It's up to you to move and to have perfect timing to make tough shots, like in real life, te4 is a simulation, top spin, ao and the others are game, that's the great difference
Te 4 should keep simulation
