Kick and twist serves

Postby Snake Doctor » 11 Jun 2023, 21:58

Can anyone tell me how you pull these off using an XBox controller please?

Thank you.

My HUM has the twist attribute, but I cannot get the ball to twist like the CPU can. Toss serve and immediately push up on stick and then push down before you strike ball. You will get some kick and twist but not as much as I would like.

Yeah, that's a problem.
CPU can do kick and twist serves like gods, even without the talent.
Manutoo, are we missing something?

For the twist : you should push up (for slice) about 50% longer than you push down (for topspin). If you have a service animation with a very short time between the ball throw and the hit, you'll have less margin for error.

For the kick : just push down the whole time.

Note : the faster the service is, the less curvy it'll get.

I'll give that a try. I think I would immediately push up, release, and then push down before the ball dropped. I don't think I have pushed straight down for kick. Will try that too.

This, I don't understand.

If you watched the game between Djokovic and Hurcakz the other night, Hurkacz was bombing down 130 to 140mph serves, but on his second serve he was able to get incredible kick on the grass, even catching out the best returner in the history of tennis a few times.

So it's strange to me the idea that a fast server can't get incredible kick. Seems counter-intuititive.

Snake Doctor,
you didn't read correctly ; it's the speed of the service that matters, not the Service Power ; so with the Safe serve, all servers should be able to get some decent curves (especially with the associated Talents) but not with the Strong serve where the curve will be minimal.
However, for 2 different players, the one having a slower Strong serve will be the one with the curviest Strong serve (it's just because it gives more time for the ball to change direction).
