Acceleration Trait Suggestions

Postby noys390 » 13 May 2023, 18:04

Hi Manutoo,
As you have asked to provide accelaration ideas, I have the following three ideas below :

1. Counter Attacker: Acceleration Speed bonus on the fast incoming balls but loses speed on sliced balls. eg. Hewit
2. Through the Motion : Acceleration Speed bonus when 'out of position' (stretching, sliding or on the run) but compromises accuracy. eg Djokovich pulling off running full stretched winners.
2. Needle Threader : Acceleration speed bonus on hitting passing shot (opponent at net) but less speed when opponent is on baseline. eg Agassi playing vs Sampras

2 and 3 are interesting. Don't know exactly how but some kind of bonus on passing shot, or running shots, would be nice. For 1) There is already playstyle & acceleration trait for that(atleast close to it)

Are acceleration traits includes short acceleration or only normal acceleration?

noys390,
1) This is the Counter player style

2) 3) It feels too situational

Mahmut,
if a Trait was affecting the Short Acceleration, it'd be written "Short Acceleration", so right now, no trait affects it.

Hi Manu,

I thought of another potential acceleration trait I thought I would share, perhaps for aggressive or serve and volley players. What about a trait that makes acceleration slower, but is more precise and/or gives the player a speed boost after hitting so they can get into the net (the opposite of heavy hitter). This would encourage using the precise acceleration shots as an approach shot for net players.

Hi Manutoo,
Agreed on your comments. Just elaborating the point 3: in TE4, the cpu at the net is overpowered, this is evident from any cpu vs cpu match. Something needs to be done to retain the balance between baseline and net-play, whether it is done by talent system/, accln trait/, increasing the volley difficulty on topspin amount or some other mechanism.

Andynator7,
hum, I have mixed feeling about such a kind of trait, because it'd feel like the absolute obvious choice for the volleyer style, whereas I'd prefer the Acceleration Trait making sense for all styles (ie: it's to bring variations in the gameplay with many different combinations).

noys390,
my current observation is that it's hard to reach the net, but once he's there, the volleyer has a good advantage, so it doesn't feel too unbalanced.
If you have stats that go against that, please open a new topic and explain how you got them (CPU difficulty, surface, etc.).
