Good morning! I see demos for Windows and Mac are available. Can we have a Linux one as well?

Thanks! ^_^

Hello,

here, I just built it for you : https://www.managames.com/download.php? ... .tar_t1.gz . (~600MB) (warning: do not play online, it'll desync)

Note : do not buy the game to play online, I very seldom update the Linux version.

Hello manutoo.

I bought Tennis Elbow 2013 10 years ago and have played it every year up until a few months ago. I'm also a Linux user, I use Ubuntu 20.04 and my pc has integrated graphics, I have a Ryzen 5 5600G, and 16 GB of Ram.

I downloaded and installed the demo, as soon as the game starts a window appears and tells me that it has found an error and to send a report, then I close this window and the game continues. So I change the settings to my liking, since I have the integrated I set all the details to a minimum and play in 2D. Then I choose to play a friendly game, a screen appears that says it is loading and then after a few minutes the game closes. I tried to start it from the terminal to see if there were any errors but it doesn't tell me anything.

Could it be a bug? Or is it not possible to play with the integrated video card?

I read in the player.log file errors such as:
Code: Select all
=== Initializing Stadium 'UsSlam' with Surface 'Courts/Surfaces/BlueGreenCement/' & Scene 'UsSlam'
   Init 2D Stadium Stadium2d_Outdoor

Actarus69,
did you click on "Send" when the Crash Report popped up at the start of the game ?

Anyway, the demo was missing a file, so I just updated it and you can re-download & install it, it should be ok now, hopefully... :fear:

Hi manutoo,

No, I didn't send the report yesterday because I tried several times to see if the friendly was loading, read the logs, try to launch the game again from the terminal, and I forgot :(

Anyway I re-downloaded and installed as you told me and now everything works :)
Thank you very much :)

I've tried it for a while, but I intend to play it again as soon as I have time, but I already like it, it's wonderful, thanks for this game, but above all thanks that you also make games in the Linux version.

Obviously I will buy it :) (and thanks for the discount to us TennisElbow 2013 buyers)

P.S. when will v1.0 be available?

The v1.0 might arrive after the console ports, so hopefully next year.

Ok. If I want to buy the game now can I do it? Or is it better for Linux to wait for v1.0 to be released?

I don't update the Linux version often : the latest update was done about 2 months ago, but it was a good stable version, so you should be able to play with it without serious issue.
TE4 is already the most-played tennis game on PC since a couple of months, so if you liked the demo and want to play some more, you can get the full version now...

Yes, I know you don't update often, if I remember correctly it was the same for TE2013, the important thing is that the version is stable, and then in case I know I can ask you if you update, it's already happened in the past I think :)

Anyway I bought the game a few hours ago, installed it and tried it, all good :)

For any questions or problems, do I continue in this topic? And for suggestions? For example, I'd like to be able to train the smash too, in fact I'm a bit lacking in doing it, already from TE2013 :D

Then again I wanted to congratulate you for this wonderful game, I've played TE2013 for many years and I've had a lot of fun, and I'm sure it will be the same for TE4 :)

I forgot: I haven't found a manual or guide for the game. Not that there's a need, coming from TE2013 I already know how to move and then it's intuitive, but I'd like it if there were. Will you be doing this when you release v1.0?

P.S. How will I know you have updated the Linux version? Directly from the game, or will I get an email?

1) Yes, you can ask me to update the Linux version a couple of times per year ; at least I'll know I do it for one person, which is better than no one... :blackeye:

2) You can post here for issues specific to Linux and linked to the Demo

3) For other questions, I prefer to have 1 question per topic (for clarity and search efficiency for Google), but if the questions are related, they can all go on the same topic (and if the questions are unrelated, I'll still answer them :P )

4) Thanks for the praise ! :jap:

5) Right now, there's only that : https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Te ... _Game.html ; I'll do a dedicated doc for TE4 once we're near the v1.0

6) The game checks for a new version once a week

Re: TE4 Linux demo

Postby Actarus69 » 07 Apr 2023, 11:39

Manu,
thanks for the answers. I also wanted to ask you: will the key I received by purchasing the full version of TE4 also be valid when you release v1.0? Sorry for the silly question :D

Then I wanted to tell you something that happens to me in TE4, both in the full version and even before in the demo version. So, I have a desktop PC, and on Ubuntu 20.04 I have activated energy saving in its settings which, after a certain number of minutes (which I decide) if the PC is inactive, turns off the screen and puts the monitor on standby.
When I play TE4 in full screen after the necessary minutes have passed the monitor goes into standby :(
If I play in a window it doesn't happen to me, and if I play other games I have (always in full screen), for example Horizon Chase Turbo that I bought on Steam (Linux native, I don't use Proton but only native games), it doesn't happen.
So it only happens with TE4 and I don't understand why :( and therefore to play in full screen I first deactivate energy saving in Ubuntu and then reactivate it after playing.
This is a bit annoying, also because sometimes it can happen that I forget about it :(
I don't know if there is any way to fix it. Do you think it can? If you could do that I would be so grateful.

I take advantage of this space to wish you, your family and all your loved ones in advance a happy and peaceful Easter :)

1) Sure, your Key will work with the v1.0

2) I had to do something special to prevent the screen turning off on Windows ; I don't know how to do it on Linux with the Unity engine and a quick search gave nothing, so I'm afraid I won't be able to change that... :fear:

PS: thanks, you too :)

Maybe I'll do a search too, you never know :D

For now I've solved it by playing in the window, the game is nice and fluid all the same you know. Of course I play in 2D but I also tried 3D and it works, the integrated video card of my Ryzen 5 5600G is really excellent. According to various sources on the web it should be equal to a GT1030.

P.S. Thank you :)
