Restart of Nick Kyrgios's career

Postby VernieBoi » 29 Aug 2019, 00:24

Hey Everyone
I am again trying to get someone's career to the top. This time I'm taking over Nick Kyrgios. We will start in 2013, year, when Kyrgios wasn't Kyrgios we all know now.
Kyrgios is now 700th in the world, that's quite far from the top, isn't it? :D It could be hard to get to the top as I will play seasons mode, so I will play with stats Kyrgios will get each year. Also I want to thank to acerodd_2003, yiph2 and CHAPI for their suggestions about players

Now, I will stick to the tournament rules I played in Berdych career.
From Futures up to ATP 500 will be best of 3 sets with 3rd set master tie-break.
ATP 1000, Davis Cup and World Tour Finals are best of 3 full sets, with ATP 1000 and Finals being best of 5 in final.
Grandslams are best of 5 with deciding tie-break at 6/6 in fifth.

So, let's get to it!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(part 1)

Nick will start at his Australia's capital city Canberra. Although Nick didn't get any wild card to previous Australia challenger Onkaparinga, Canberra's directors offered him wild card to their qualification draw.
First round was kinda calm win for Nick as he defeated 330th player Ortega-Olmedo 6/1 6/3 without many troubles.
Second round was lot more wild. Nick lost just 4 games again, yet he had to save 10 breakpoints against 407th Kretschmer, Nick made 20! aces and 9 double-faults.
Final round opponent was serbian's 363rd player of the world Pavicevic. And Kyrgios dominated again, defeated his Pavicevic 6/1 6/0 in 40 minutes to get to his first challenger main draw!!

Canberra had lot of great players here, as Nick went to face 10th seed Adrian Mannarino (86th in the world).
Kyrgios showed that he is bit nervous right at the start, and Mannarino took quick break, break didn't last long as Kyrgios broke back to make it 4/4. First set went to tiebreak, Kyrgios went 5 times to the lead, yet Mannarino got 5 times back and when it came to big point, Kyrgios failed to go to lead again and Mannarino took 6-5 lead and then won 7-5.
Kyrgios went to break quickly in the second, he held his serve until 5/4 when he failed to finish it. But he then broke Adrian again and finished the second set 7/5. Master tie-break was sadly bit one-sided. Kyrgios went to 4-2 lead, yet he managed to win just 2 points out of 10 to come and lost 6-10. Mannarino won just one more point then Kyrgios :? It was still great showing from Nick as he took Top 100 player to some troubles.

Quick Results
Q1 - d. Ortega-Olmedo(12) 6/1 6/3
Q2- d. Kretschmer 6/2 6/2
Q3 - d. Pavicevic 6/1 6/0
R1 - l. Mannarino(10) 6/7(5) 7/5 6-10

Nick went up by 70 places, but you can't take the rankings outside Top 200 too seriously, he can fall back quickly soon.

I am enjoying playing as Kyrgios now as I feel I can basically do whatever I want :D
See y'all soon, hopefully tomorrow

Re: Restart of Nick Kyrgios's career

Postby VernieBoi » 29 Aug 2019, 21:17

(part 2)

Sadly, Australian Open's directors didn't give us wild card to their tournament (what a mistreating for the most talented player in the world, right? )
Nick decided to take a Europe trip and went to Futures tournament in Spain. As I adjusted best players that can show on chalengers or futures, these tournament have many more competitive players then before.
First round was against Jakob Sude, player from 3rd hundred in the world. Kyrgios wasn't really trying to win on Sude's serve, as the set went to 4/4 in just 27 minutes. Kyrgios held his serve again, yet played his best return game in whole match to close first set 6/4. Sude started strongly in the second took quick break and Kyrgios gave it up easily 2/6. In master tiebreak Sude continued to dominate until his 7-3 lead, Kyrgios made 4 aces on serve in a row, won return points and finally won 10-8 in the master tiebreak.
Nick faced Daniel Marco in the next round. In whole match there were just 3 breakballs, all for Kyrgios, none of them used. In first set tiebreak Nick took 3-1 lead, Marco got back to 4-4, but Kyrgios was on fire last three points and won 7-4. Kyrgios was even in 4-1 lead in second set tiebreak, yet he again lost the lead, YET again dominated in the end to win 7-4 once again.
4th seed Pierre Hugues-Herbert awaited next. Herbert won few more points on return, but he didn't convert his only breakpoint, on 5/4 Kyrgios got 3 set points, Herbert saved first two with an ace, but Kyrgios than made fantastic passing shot and won first set 6/4. Herbert was much better in second set, Kyrgios had to play 11 more points on serve then his opponent. Still second set went to tiebreak, where Kyrgios took easy 3-0 lead, Herbert served great to get to 3-2, Kyrgios then made TWO doublefaults and it was 3-4, Herbert again held serve without problem, Kyrgios then too, but Herbert finished second set with a second serve ace to get it 7-5 in tiebreak. Kyrgios was dominant in master tiebreak, he took 3-0 lead, Herbert held both serves to get to 3-2, but Kyrgios was unstoppable, he won 7 of the next 8 points to win 10-3.
Semifinals match was against Arnau Dachs, and guy, you can't even imagine how I hated this match, Nick used 5 breakpoints, but he had totally SIXTEEN, I just wanted every return game no matter if I win or lose, it was just terrible. Nick won 6/4 6/3 in the end, move on.
Final opponent was Hungarian's qualifier Jozsef Krocsko, to be fair, this guy has 268 points in total. Very relaxed Kyrgios dominated in 46 minutes 6/1 6/2 and Nick Kyrgios wins his first career tournament.

Quick Results
R1 - d. Sude 6/4 2/6 10-8
R2 - d. Marco 7/6(4) 7/6(4)
QF - d. Herbert(4) 6/4 6/7(5) 10-3
SF - d. Dachs 6/4 6/3
F - d. Krocsko(q) 6/1 6/2

After his first title, Kyrgios breaks through Top 500, for the first time in his career .
Rank: from 657 to 440(!!)

Nick will go back to Australia for another challenger, for some reason he didn't get wildcard to main draw and has to qualify..

(part 3)
As I wrote earlier, Nick went back to Australia to play challenger there, we had to go through qualification, and Nick had some interesting opponent straight away in the first round, as he had to face Dominic Thiem. Thiem got quick break in the first, then had 6 BPs to make it 5/2, Nick fought back, but wasn't successful to break Thiem's serve. Second set was very similar, Thiem got break in the third game of the second, NIck made it back to 3/3, but immediately lost his next serve, and didn't manage to break opponent again so Nick lost 4/6 4/6.

Quick Results
Q1 - l. Thiem(14) 4/6 4/6

January main tournaments final results
Doha (250) - (2)Federer d. Raonic 4/6 7/5 10-3

Auckland (250) - (1)Murray d. Almagro(4) 3/6 6/3 10-8
Sydney (250) - (7)J. Melzer d. Federer(1) 6/4 4/6 10-4
Australian Open - (8)Berdych d. Ferrer(7) 6/1 6/3 6/2 (well, now I don't have to feel bad for losing Berdych save :D :D )
AO facts
1st seed Roger Federer lost in first round to Victor Hanescu 4/6 6/7 7/6 6/3 1/6
2nd seed Novak Djokovic retired in third round to Mikhail Youzhny
3rd seed Andy Murray fell to Lukas Rosol in first round after winning first two sets, 6/3 6/4 4/6 4/6 2/6

Australian Open Results

Nick decided to stay in Australia for few weeks and play a futures tournament here, he also signed for doubles alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis (should be called Australia's Dream Team) :D :D
Our first pair to beat were Gubenco and Penaud (both #859), Aussie pair converted all of their 4 BPs, yet didn't have to save any for an easy win.
Final round opponents were Jared Donaldson and Nick Monroe (both #853), Kyrg/Kok took a quick 4/1 lead, but few miscomunications cost them full first set, as they managed to win only one more game and lost 5/7. The non-ideal performance continued as we saved few BPs, but Kokkinakis lost his serve for the third set to make it 3/4. But Donaldson wasn't succesful on serve too, as Kyrgios and Kokkinakis made it back. Both Kyrgios and Monroe held their serve without trouble and so did Kokkinakis, but Donaldson seemed bit stressed and Aussie pair managed to take the second 7/5, master tiebreak was one sided as Kyrg/Kok gave USA's players no chance and won easily 10-5 to make it to the main draw.

Nick got wildcard to the singles competition, his first opponent was Facundo Arguello (#8 seed, #243), even though Arguello was decent defender, Nick played his classic tennis, saved all 7 BPs and converted his two to get the 6/3 6/4 win.

Our first round doubles opponents were Donald Young (#335) and Maxime Authom (#429), they were simply better all match, allthough we fought as much as we could, we were broken at 5/6 both times, so, no points for us this time :(

Second round opponent in singles for qualifier Dusan Vemic (#614). Nick played what he needed and easily advanced after 6/4 6/1 win.
We went to face Aussie's Adam Hubble (#251). The match lasted just 54 minutes, Nick took one break in each set and lost just 4 points throughout whole match on his own serve, amazing and concentrated performance by Nick.
Another Australian opponent awaited, as we faced Greg Jones (#247), Nick started strongly with a break, Jones managed to get back to make it 4/4. Set went to tiebreak, where Kyrgios took 3-0 lead, both held their serves until 5-4 for Kyrgios, Kyrgios lost one to make it 5-5, held next and took Greg's serve again to win first set 7-5 in tie break. Both had bit trouble on serve, but managed to win them until 4/3, Nick took break after a love game on return and had no trouble to finish the match and advance to his 2nd Futures final!
Our final opponent opponent is Arthur de Greef (#262). Both players put on quality performance, but Nick took the first set after single break 6/3. Second set was much tougher, Kyrgios almost lost himself his serve, when he made 3 doublefaults in a game and even allowed de Greef to have a breakpoint, yet Kyrgios saved it, broke him next game and served the match out with 3 aces.
So Nick Kyrgios won this Australia F1 Futures tournament, gets his second title.

Quick Results
R1 - d. Arguello(8) 6/3 6/4
R2 - d. Vemic(q) 6/4 6/1
QF - d. Hubble 6/3 6/4
SF - d. Jones 7/6(5) 6/3
F - d. de Greef 6/3 6/4

Nick goes up by 99 places to get to his new maximum, 321st place. We will now play one more Australia futures tournament, we will try to get our 3rd title and then our main objective is to elevate ourselves on challenger tour.

R2 - d. de Greef (#8,#241) 2/6 7/6(8) 10-8 - tough rematch with de Greef, he even had 2 match points in second set tie-break, when it was 8-8 in last set, he made to doublefault and basically gifted Nick the win
QF - d. Peers (#4, #226) 7/6(9) 4/6 10-2 - Australian gave us lot of troubles, Nick had no chance on return, but when it came to master tiebreak, he played few incredible passing shots
SF - d. Dossetor (q, #713) 6/4 5/7 10-6 - Australian's qualification wild card played great match, but Nick again managed to win the master tiebreak
F - l. Beck (q, #570) 7/6(6) 3/6 5-10 - Nick gave it all to the first set and after two tough weeks had no energy to finish the match

Re: Restart of Nick Kyrgios's career

Postby VernieBoi » 02 Sep 2019, 19:57

I will now release few 1-2 tournament post, just so I could get you to the time, where I am in the career.
For the next 2 Chinese tournaments, Nick went on to play doubles with John Peers.

China International Nanjing (50k)
Nick is 9th seed
Singles
R1 - d. Duclos (q, #483) 6/0 6/4
R2 - d. Zhang (#6, #174) 6/3 6/4
QF - d. Chang (wc, #447) 6/3 6/2
SF - d. Wu Di (#238) 5/7 6/4 10-4
F - d. Chiudinelli (#8, #180) 6/4 5/7 10-8

Yes, Nick won easily the first three matches, Wu Di was first big trouble, Nick was leading 5/2 in the first, before losing 5 games in a row, yet he still managed to turn the match to his side. Final against Chiudinelli was tough as well, Marco even saved 3 MPs, but still, fourth minor tour title for Nick, second challenger, looks like he really loves it here in China.

Doubles
with John Peers (#266)
R1 - d. Ehrat (#253) and Thiem (#325) 6/2 6/4
R2 - l. (#4) Reid (#130) and Lajovic (#195) 3/6 1/6
Yeah, Reid and Lajovic just destroyed us, it was terrible, we hope for better results.

Main Tour Results - weeks 14 - 16

Re: Restart of Nick Kyrgios's career

Postby VernieBoi » 02 Sep 2019, 20:41

Anning Open (100k)
Singles
R1 - d. Martin (#2, #123) 7/5 2/6 10-8
R2 - l. Margaroli (#157) 4/6 2/6

Good win over Martin, but sudden loss to Margaroli.. It will probably be much tougher to get further in 100k and more challengers.

Doubles
R1 - l. Dancevic (#185) and Levine (#213) 5/7 3/6

Things were not going as good as we were hoping with Peers. Time for next partner. Nick decided to stay in Asia, but finally went out of China, he signed for a tournament in South Korea. Also his new doubles partner is Robert Farah, and he is an absolute beast, with stats over 1600 points, he can definitely take our results to new level.

Séoul Open
Nick had to play qualification here, because last direct accepted player was ranked #123.
Q1 - d. Cho (wc, #671) 6/0 6/1
Q2 - d. Acosta (#445) 6/0 6/0
Q3 - l. Lobkov (#420) 4/6 6/7(3)

Courts here are very slow, almost like on clay and Lobkov with his defender skill used every bit of it..

Doubles
with Robert Farah (#168)
R1 - d. Kuznetsov (#126) and Levine (#222) 6/3 6/0
R2 - d. (#5) Soeda (#90) and Grenier (#111) 6/2 6/7(4) 10-6
QF - l. (#4) Pella (#73) and Bedene (#99) 4/6 4/6

Good result with Farah, I am happy because this is my second best resutĺt on challenger, hopefully we will keep this up

Main Tour Results - weeks 17-19
Estoril (250) - (1)Murray d. Fognini(4) 6/3 6/3
Munich (250) - (1)Nadal d. Estrella Burgos(8) 6/2 6/4
Instanbul (250) - (3)Anderson d. Melzer(2) 7/5 7/5

Re: Restart of Nick Kyrgios's career

Postby VernieBoi » 04 Sep 2019, 18:53

Nick made an interesting choice as he decided to try to qualify for Roland Garros in both competitions

Roland Garros
Singles
sixth seed in Q
Q1 - l. Brown (#377) 1/6 4/6 - Looks like Kyrgios won't be friend of clay anytime soon

Doubles
first seeds in Q with Farah (#162)
Q1 - d. Kretschmer (#360) and Krocsko (#466) 6/3 6/1
Q2 - d. (5) Inoue (#292) and Jiang (#398) 6/1 6/0
R1 - l. Roger-Vasellin (#11) and Dodig (#81) 6/4 4/6 5/7 7/6(5) 5/7

Nick played his first GS main draw match and it was surely great experience, sadly with no happy ending, him and Farah took the favourites to huge battle, yet they didn't make the final step after they went to lead 5/3 in the last set, only to lose next 4 games..

Time for grass season
Aegon Surbiton Trophy (42,5k)
Singles
6th seed
R1 - d. Baker (wc, #370) 6/3 3/6 15-13
R2 - l. Struff (#287) 6/7(6) 6/7(2)

Struff had much more better stats than Nick, so only thing he could hope for is to be successful in tiebreaks, he wasn't.

Doubles
7th seeds with Farah (#182)
R1 - bye
R2 - d. Karanusic (#265) and Podlipnik (#330)
QF - d. (4) Sousa (#92) and de Greef (#208) 3/6 7/6(4) 10-5
SF - d. (1) Rosol (#64) and Mahut (#79) 6/4 6/7(7) 11-9
F - l. (2) Struff (#94) and Claverie (#96) 4/6 7/5 10-12

Great tournament, but with bitter ending, we were actually 10-9 up and Nick was on serve, Nick needed 2nd serve both times, and he served safely and it didn't deliver, but still best doubles tournament in Nick's career.

Aegon Ilkley Trophy (42,5k)
Singles
6th seed
R1 - l. Klahn (#250) 4/6 3/6

Not a good form now for Nick..

Doubles
8th seeds with Farah (#176)
R1 - bye
R2 - d. Scaravilli (#302) and Fernandes (#295) 6/2 6/4
QF - A. Murray (#286) and Priddle (#320) 3/6 5/7

Basically Andy eliminated us, not much more to say, him and Priddle won the tournament afterwards.

To this point, grass season wasn't much successful, let's hope for something better at Wimbledon

Wimbledon
18th seed in Q
Q1 - d. M. Mannarino (#306) 4/6 6/3 6/2
Q2 - d. Bedene (#252) 6/7(1) 6/1 7/6(3)
Q3 - d. Karanusic (#9, #136) 6/3 6/7(1) 7/6(5)
R1 - l. Murray (#3, #3) 2/6 2/6 1/6

Kyrgios put on great battles in qualification, and made his first main draw in singles on GS, but yeah, Murray is Murray, I am surprised we won those 5 games :D.

Doubles
4th seeds in Q with Farah (#180)
Q1 - d. Echazu (#295) and Boluda (#303) 6/3 6/3
Q2 - d. Waite (#346) and Tsutsihashi (#463) 6/3 6/2
R1 - l. Roger-Vasellin (#9) and Butorac (#65) 6/7(3) 6/7(3) 6/7(3)

Easy Q matches, but three similar sets in 1st round match. Still good run with the fact, that we had to play qualification

Nick has now reached maximum in both singles (#137) and also doubles (#251).

Re: Restart of Nick Kyrgios's career

After grass season, Nick took few weeks break to get back his energy and decided to travel to Canada for few challengers there.

Banque Nationale de Granby
Singles
R1 - d. Jaziri (#6, #108) 6/2 6/4
R2 - Gimeno Traver (#143) 5/7 2/6

This is getting awkward now, Nick had good run at Wimbledon, but without it, it's just bad result after bad result..

Doubles
with Farah (#212)
R1 - l. Phau (#182) and Berlocq (#219) 1/6 6/7(5)

.... I just hope we can things back together sooner than later..

Banque Nationale de Gatineau
Singles
9th seed
R1 - d. Trneny (q, #456) 6/2 6/3
R2 - d. Eduardo Severino (q, #512) 6/3 4/6 11-9
QF - d. Danevic (#15, #156) 4/6 4/6

Doubles
R1 - d. Dancevic (#241) and Blake (#389) 6/2 6/2
R2 - d. (5) Pashanski (#143) and Michelotti (#219) 6/4 6/7(5) 10-8
QF - l. (3) Kudla (#128) and Navarro Pastor (#163) 5/7 7/6(5) 15-17

Yeah at least some good results, I guess, I must be happy even with the two QFs now.

After USO, Nick took big 4 weeks break, before returning to the minor tour tournaments, he decided to stay is USA until the end of the season.

Wells Fargo Bank Tiburon (100k)
Singles
13th seed
R1 - d, Marchenko (#148) 6/2 5/7 10-7
R2 - l. Garcia Lopez (#1, #51) 2/6 0-0 ret.

Nick didn't convert 6 BPs in first set, he was really angry after losing it so easily, he shook his hand with ref and Garcia Lopez and left the court afterwards.

Doubles
with Robert Farah
R1 - l. Millot (#244) and Musialek (#288) 3/6 4/6

Stockton Challenger (100k)
Singles
11th seed
R1 - l. Dubail (#151) 1/6 4/6

Doubles
with Robert Farah (#221)
R1 - (q) Rajski (#677) and Look (#677) 6/3 6/0
R2 - l. (8) Bogomolov (#111) and Marchenko (#209) 4/6 6/3 7-10

Francis Ford Coppola Winery (100k)
Singles
R1 - d. Lacko (#7, #84) 6/7(3) 6/3 10-7
R2 - d. Baker (#12, #104) 7/6(7) 6/4
QF - l. Matosevic (#3, #73) 4/6 0/6

Finally better results, two great wins against better ranked opponents, Marinko Matosevic was just too much of a challenge for us.

Doubles
R1 - d. (q) Arraya and Mazarakis (both #919) 6/1 6/4
R2 - d. (8) Reynolds (#97) and Hernych (#138) 3/6 6/4 10-3
QF - l. (4) Becker (#81) and Sousa (#110) 3/6 6/4 4-10

After 3 100k tournaments, Nick went down to play one 50k again.

Las Vegas Tennis Open (#50k)
Singles
2nd seed
R1 - d. Ito (#222) 6/3 6/4
R2 - d. Delic (#13, #214) 6/4 6/7(2) 10-6
QF - d. Lisnard (#12, #213) 7/6(5) 6/1
SF - d. Williams (#11, #212) 6/3 5/7 10-7
F - d. Berman (#10, #209) 4/6 6/3 14-12

One of toughest matches in the final, yet Nick managed to win and he gets his fifth minor tour title and reaches his new ranking best of 110.

Doubles
R1 - d. Kalovelonis (#323) and Forster (#418) 6/1 6/1
R2 - d. (7) Ito (#164) and Weintraub (#197) 0/6 6/2 10-8 - this is probably the wildest match Nick has played to this point.
QF - d. Wasfy (#373) and Ginepri (#407) 6/2 6/2
SF - d. (6) Jones (#149) and Crepaldi (#188) 6/2 3/6 10-4
F - d. (3) Gozdur (#138) and Lajovic (#159) 6/4 6/3

FINALLY, first doubles title in Nick's entire career, it was worth the wait, so Nick took Las Vegas by storm and wins double here!!

Nick decided he won't play anymore until the start of the 2014 season.
