No one said the opposite. But we try to point out weak parts of the game in order to help manoo make it more realistic if he can

This game and series has always been historically difficult, verging on impossible, and IMO it should ALWAYS remain so. Drop shots on incredible are possible and I've done them many times. Just like real tennis, it's all about positioning, using the court, playing angles to push your opponent out wide and then finishing the point off with a drop shot. If you watch real tennis, that's how the pros do it anyway.

As for aces, there is a knack of getting them (on TE2013 at least) and it becomes clearer the more games you play. I have seasons of nearly 1000 aces with my main character, on incredible. The hint is that the best serves aren't always the most powerful. John Isner recently played Roger Federer in the Laver cup and despite being a far harder server than Federer, often serving 130 - 140 mph serves, Federer ended up with more aces. Why? Because Federer serves smart not hard. The same applies in TE.

One thing I would like to see, especially when you choose your play time as 2005 onwards, is a noticeable lack of volleying on the tour. It seemed every player I played in the challenger events on TE2013 was a serve and volleyer, and nowadays it's almost impossible to find anyone who serves and volleys on the men or women's tour. I understand that volleying is a part of tennis, and I love to see it get the attention it deserves, but maybe have a slider that lets us choose how often players will have it in our career for those looking for super immersive play.

Otherwise, everything I've seen in the prototype is promising. I'm not looking for authentic crowds and super accurate intros to games and all that razzmatazz. So many tennis games focus on that and lose focus on what's important: the tennis! And that's why Manutoo's series will always be, for me at least, the best tennis series ever made. And if he can improve on TE2013, even just a little, I'll be a happy camper.

@CHAPI and @ yiph2 : I totally agree with you guys that we should not be too critical of this game right now as this is still in a development stage. However the points raised by LoSublime & Snake0Doctor are vital part of the gameplay. So it is important that we continue to discuss amongst us, may be keep a note of it and later on put a request to Manutoo. I am aware that Manutoo is busy in building the GUI so I do not want to disturb him too.

@Snake0Doctor : I totally agree with you. I had raised this point with Manutoo previously also in TEM2. He did tuned it down on my request but still the amount of net rush done by majority of CPU playing styles in this game is highly unrealistic as per modern standards. Once the game becomes stable we need to raise a separate topic for this. Let us also gather some statics on it.

I'm surprised to see some people saying it's impossible to do a drop shot. That's exactly one of the things that I think it was highly improved in TE4. In TE2013, it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to make a drop shot winner (playing on Professional level). Now, in TE4 prototype, I was able to do it many times already, always playing it carefully after forcing my opponent far away from the net.

Another thing that improved a lot is the return winner. This is another thing that was impossible to accomplish in TE2013, now it is possible. Second serve feels more effective now when you place it wisely. Before second serve was just a safe serve with no benefits at all. Now you can manage to surprise your opponent, even ace it, if you pull out a well-positioned serve.

For me, the prototype has already improved in many ways, so my expectations are high for the final version.

@Everybody,
as a reminder, this topic is about the Prototype, so about what's in it, and not what is missing from it... ;) (except of course if it's something that shouldn't be missing, like the players on the court :blackeye: )
If you have requests & suggestions, go here : topic15-31716.php (as specified in the 1st post of the Prototype topic)
If you have specific questions, you are also free to create a new topic to ask them.
Before to do so, it's often better to read this general presentation of TE4 development : topic15-30551.php . (also linked in the 1st post of the Prototype topic)

About the drop shots,
The Master-10 CPU has supra-human reflexes, and the Incredible-10 one even more so, so it's normal they can catch drop shots no human could catch.
As pointed out by antimouse, the drop shots are already much more effective than in TE2013 in Pro-10, where the CPU has human-like reflexes, and it's possible to do clear drop shot winners, where before it was nearly impossible. It means in Master-10, doing the drop shot from a couple of meters from inside the baseline should already be effective (ie: at least, CPU touching the ball, but making a fault), but I don't currently plan on making it more effective. However, I'll test more the gameplay later on during the development of TE4, and I'll check if it needs some tuning or not.

iopzzza,
1) I repeat myself : the Players.ini format changed, so if you didn't manually enter the retirement code into the Players.ini, then Nadal, Djokovic and Federer do not retire in 2019. Instead they get semi-random fictional ranks.

2) If you don't want Djokovic to retire in 2020, then add at least 2 RankPerYear for him.

3) You'll find the Players.ini in the TEM2 Modding SDK here : topic11-31376.php .

4) I checked Gimelstob and I found an issue : doubles specialists who didn't have a volleyer or all-court attacker style and also had low doubles spirit and volley skills were getting too high other skills to compensate and be good enough in doubles, thus making them way too good in singles. I fixed them in the base for the next update. The version in the TEM2 Modding SDK is already updated.

JiJo,
what number is your BH ? (there are 2 Wawrinka's).
Next time it happens, could send me a Bug Report during the match ? (HowTo => topic5-31732.php )

LoSublime,
1) all your comments are about woman gameplay, right ? I super didn't test it, so I'll check later on what you have reported... :blackeye:

2) In-game service speed max shouldn't be the record, but the usual maximum speed in a match, as only luck influences the speed in-game.

Snake0Doctor,
Ask me again about lowering the volleyer & all-court attacker rate when the game will be in v1.0 (or near to it). I'll try to do it then..! :)

noys390,
if I understood correctly, Snake0Doctor issue isn't about the net rush rate in itself (which is relatively realistic), but about the fact that too many players have the volleyer styles after 2005, while in real life it almost totally disappeared.

Hello
Quick comment about the topspin : i find it really week compare to TE 2013, like the ball bouces 2m before the baseline. Is it just me having this impression ?

Nicholas,
overall, the topspin is maybe a bit less effective than what it should be, something like 5%.
Its length is more or less ok, though, especially as more depth would mean less angle and more faults by length.
I planned to do some more tests about all that when I'll be working on the gameplay.

Wow, this escalated quickly.

@manutoo: Yes, I only play on the WTA. :p Oh! I have hit @123 mph with max power, but I’m seeing my opponents can (rarely) hit @127mph at 80% power. I’ll try to see if I can time it better.

Ok, I sent you one. (It's the 7th one-handed backhand)
I think I understood the problem. When you pick the different acceleration animation option, it will do Roger's backhand animation when accelerating, and Wawrinka's when doing normal strokes.

Hello Manutoo
I am playing with a xbox controller. When i press the left button and release it, sometimes (like 15%/20% of the time) the player keeps running left for quite a while. It may be a problem with my controller but I don't have it with TE 2013 at all, never happened.
Any idea ?

I had the same issue as yours. You should go to the game's installation folder and open "Tennis.ini". Under the [Controller] section change the value for JoyDeadZone like below:

Code: Select all
JoyDeadZone   =   0.25

I don't know why Manutoo has changed this setting since this was the default value in TE 2013.
