Hello,
So no, changing the animation never changes the ideal distance to the ball nor anything else, engine-wise (except for the serve). So the CPU is never impaired or empowered when changing his animation strikes.
However, some animations contain some steps, and thus visually move the player on the screen away from his engine position, making it very hard to appreciate what is the actual reach of the strike, and thus leading to positioning mistakes.
In other words, if you need 1.23s of run to reach the ideal position to strike the ball, it'll stay 1.23s whatever animation you have chosen, but if the chosen animation has extra movement, it'll make you very confused.
