As long as the game visuals are not final or near it, I won't do any marketing around it, for a basic reason : you don't get a second chance at giving a 1st impression..! :blackeye:

ie: some people seeing the game right now might think there are not enough changes since TE2013, or it doesn't look good enough, or etc., and thus discard it. :fear:

Yeah, you are right, but I was talking about more like a devlog via Twitter so we can RT the improvements :D Maybe is my hype talking through me! haha

I hate to bring the truth to light but an insider told me TE4 will soon be rebranded as TE2023 to align the game's name with its release year and make it sound like TE2013 (10 years' anniversary).

I had a long break from Tennis Elbow 2013 and as I decided to try out the Alpha on Sunday. There are some things I totally forgot and could be also problematic for beginners. Maybe good idea to explain the important things in training mode of the game?
I played the game 6 hours on Sunday and 3 hours yesterday. My comments:

1. Positioning pushing the shot button (before opponent serve or shot). When you don't use it, you hardly win any matches. I lost 11 matches in a row and "kinda upset" is not exactly the correct term here. For beginners it's a must to explain how the auto positioning works. I have played only Pro 1 level and it was very disappointing not to get to the easy balls I would get, when I play real tennis. Without auto positioning the start of movement is very slow.

2. The aiming of shots. I understand now the aiming speed kinda depends on relation precision to power. For example precision 60 to power 50 is same aiming as 40 to 30. My mistake was I first I upgraded my power to 60 and precision was like 20. It was super easy to make errors like this and it's not written anywhere for beginners, that the relation to precision is very important. Also the more you hold the shot button down, the more exact your aiming will be. Am I missing some other things too? :)

3. The counter shot. It should be explained how and when you should use the tapping shot. As far as I know, when the opponent hits acceleration shot and you have good counter, then it's possible to tap the button the last moment and you can get well directed and fast counter shot. Also when the opponent rushes the net, then your passing shot is better with higher counter skill as I understand.

4. The inside out slice. The sidespin of the inside out slice has to be looked into. If you play against top 50 players the inside out sidespin slice is deadly, you just can't get to it or the opponent will get a weak reply. The speed seems kinda OK, although I would put the speed lower, but sidespin is very unrealistic :D.

But still I enjoy playing the Alpha much more than the TE 2013 regarding the ball movement and also graphics. It's more natural ball movement, that makes the difference.
Thanks to the TE4 team! Respect! :applause:

Tantsutallinn,

1) Auto-Pos works only before the service, not during the rallies before your opponent hits the ball (I may change this at some point so it won't be necessary to return services efficiently)

2) https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Te ... html#rally & https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Te ... l#accuracy

3) There's no "counter shot" ; it was more a "lucky shot" in TE2013 (it could end long or short at 50/50), and it almost doesn't work anymore in TE4 due to the more realistic physics rules (you may get a slow long ball sometimes instead)

4) I'll check it

And I'm glad to know you already enjoy TE4 more than TE2013..!

Thanks for fast reply Emmanuel!

1) The Auto-Pos works for me also during rallies. For example if I hold down the shot button before opponent rally shot, then my player straightaway knows if the opponent has hit a short or long ball and moves a bit correspondingly (only sometimes it's problematic, when opponent hits short cross, then player moves to the net, because it's short shot). This is crucial to get a faster start before your reaction time. My playing style is to hit the ball and straightaway hold down the shot button. When the rally shot from opponent comes to the middle of court, usually I hold the button all the way until my shot is made, but when the reply is better directed, then I have to use directional keys too to get to the ball. I have won now 4 tournaments with this and changed my level to master 1. Maybe improved my level a bit too, but mostly it's the auto-pos trick when returning and in the rally.
To remove completely the auto-pos maybe it's a good idea. Me as a past console player in "Top Spin" series never had auto-pos button, that is also why I forgot it at first. But as sometimes you can't understand how deep the ball is, then the auto-pos helps you a lot. Deep balls should be seen with the eye a bit better. Or maybe I'm blind and can't judge how deep the ball from opponent will be :D.

2) I meant my commentary to be more as giving tips how the beginners could learn it better. The aiming ideology needs to be better explained is what I meant so that the game could be learned faster.

3)Counter yes I sometimes get them in TE4, but in TE2013 they were much more annoying :). But the lucky shot sometimes is also a good thing, in real tennis there's often a bit of luck involved.

4)Regarding the sidespin slice I have noticed it is extreme when it's done in the middle of the court and inside out. For example with backhand on the right side of the court and inside out.

Guest,

1) Oops, actually I forgot I changed the rally Auto-Pos behavior. Now, it can be triggered when playing against a Junior CPU or less good. But I did the test in the wrong place, so it was always on... :blackeye:
It'll be fixed in the next update, thanks to your report !
