I thought so - I'm not sure if this idea was before, but what do you think about adding the option of choosing the string tension? As in reality -> more control, less strength, etc., the ability to choose the strength (and type?) For the court surface
It probably wouldn't be easy to implement in the game, it's just idea...:)

Hi,

TE is the best tennis simulation I've ever played but I have some questions about new features that could improve the gaming experience.

1. Are there any new animations planned? Especially, stretching to reach a difficult ball with a slice. The more animations the better but I think that this one is a must, it's the only one that I'm really missing while playing the game.
2. I remember there was some discussion about challenge system, is this still planned for a full version?

One more question about modding, will the real players' animations from the previous version work with this one? Or does anyone know if there are plans to release mods like SAM's or ITST with real tournaments, graphics and players' animations? I know that it's the great gameplay that makes this game so enjoyable but all those additional stuff are giving so much more fun!

I apologize if these questions have been already answered in previous pages.

Thanks!

Hi manutoo

Hope you are doing fine, I was just going to ask you a "technical" question about mechanics in TE4 and particularly about volleying.
I enjoy volleying in TE2013, I feel it is a cool way to close points and requires coordination, positioning and fast thinking. The problem imo is that the game sometimes starts the groundstroke animation when (I suppose it works like this) the player is supposed to be finding himself behind the ball, even if the player is attacking and so, when he will approach the ball, he will be finding himself volleying with groundstroke anim, and everything gets more random.
Is there any chance you will introduce something like "manual volleying", so that we can decide wether or not playing the volley anim? I think it would be a nice change.
Overall, I have to give credit to you by how the work is proceding, I like the slice rework and graphically is going to look stunning, although I'm not really a fan of more inertia and slower gameplay overall, but I guess I will get used to it.

TheMarksman,
I'm considering adding a context-sensitive button, so in this case we could imagine it'd be used to decide between drive volley and normal volley.
Also, I probably could make the choice smarter to start with, so I'll try to look into that at some point. :)

I simply LOVE TE2013, been a fan since the first version back in eraly 2000s.

So here are my sugestions regarding SLIDING / STRETCHING:

Sliding and/or stretching shots are a big thing in tennis and should be featured in TE4. But how?

I was playing just now and it came to me. When i feel a ball is unreachable, i just try to run full speed towards it, going for the SAFEST shot, wich is engaged by using none of the shot buttons.

So i feel stretching and sliding for a ball should be something like this..... BUT with a "lightining-fast" press of one of the buttons at the last (or appropriate) moment. This quick press, when running at FULL SPEED towards a ball (front or to the sides), would engage a stretching or sliding animation to give that extra help to hit that ball (or not). So you could try to engage it with the slice button, creating that streched squash-shot, the topspin button, so the ball travels high, or even the acceleration button, so, if you're lucky enough, you get that one-in a million shot nadal hit against wawrinka in the final of the '17 french open.

So the difference between sliding and stretching towards the ball would be how far you are from it when you engage the shot. If you're far, you'll slide; if you're closer, you'll only strecth, or slide less. Sliding effectivness could, of course, change from surface to surface.

What do you guys think?

Manutoo,
Adding another button to the list could be detrimental to the keyboard-gamers like me, so instead I suggest double tapping the same button to make that variation.

Would it be possible to incorporate an actual coin toss before the beginning of each match?

Victorbicudo,
this is a very good suggestion, perfect for brainstorming..!
Maybe I'll do some try in that direction when I'll be working on the gameplay.

noys390,
with how many buttons do you play on your keyboard ? (ie: in addition to the 4 keys for direction)

CHAPI,
maybe, but it's really not high on my priority list. :fear:

Apart from the direction button there are there other buttons namely for (1) slice/ dropshot/ lob (2) topspin (3) acceleration / aggressive lob.
Currently the three button with combination of direction keys gives all the shots. In other tennis games there are different buttons for lob , dropshot , volley etc, which make those difficult to control with keyboards. So I am suggesting the double tapping option.
I really like the idea of a drive volley and slice volley as per the situation of the game, this will certainly improve the doubles gameplay. Currently in the absence of any drive volley, both human-player or the CPU cannot end the point at net with a thumping put away, when there is a weak or a floating return.
