ATP Finals in a mess

Postby Daniel Silva » 02 Sep 2018, 00:24

Hello guys

Can you explain to me what happened in standings in Group B??

Why Federer is the first, Ferrero is the second and Coria is the third??

Below, there are images of the round-robin.

Re: Standings in ATP Finals

Postby Daniel Silva » 02 Sep 2018, 23:33

Hello manutoo

I apologize for what I’ve done. I was rude.

But how do you know I haven't updated it yet?? I only sent you some photos. You're incredible.

In fact, I want to know how the standings work if three players will tie??

In real life, Standings are determined by:
1) Number of wins;
2) Number of matches;
3) In two-players-ties, head-to-head records;
4) In three-players-ties, percentage of sets won, then percentage of games won, then head-to-head records;
5) ATP rankings

But in my ATP Finals it works a little different. I'll explain below

Here is the standing

How Coria finished in 3rd position if they've won more percentage of Games than the others players??

I think they considered only matches between players that ended in the tie, so the standings are:
Sem Título.jpg

Then, they applied the 5th rule to determine the standing. Federer is the 2nd seed, Ferrero is de 4th seed and Coria is the seed number 7. So Federer is the first, Ferrero is the second and Coria is the third.

The issue is: I do not know if they have to count all the results or only the matches between the players who are in tied.

I did some searches on this and found something similar in the 1997 ATP Finals (called of 1997 ATP Tour World Championship)
Sem Título1.jpg

In this tournament, they counted all the matches to do the standing. Then Sampras was the first followed by Moya and Rafter

But, if you considered only matches between players that ended in the tie, the standings are:
Sem Título2.jpg

Rafter would be in 2nd place because he won more % Sets than Moya.

In conclusion, I think that in real life they considered all the matches to do the standings rather than only the matches between the players who are in tied. However, In my game, they counted only the matches between the players who are in tied.

Thanks

Your screenshots are in .bmp while the game produces .jpg since a couple of years.

For the sorting, it's done by : number of matches won ; if same, number of least lost sets (it's same than set win %) ; if same, number of least points lost.
