General discussions about the 3rd edition of Tennis Elbow

SC Tom:

The helplessness isn't from losing the game, it is from not having control of your player.

The recording of games should be enabled by default, I think. You should find a Demos folder within the Profiles folder of the installation folder (i.e., Program Files\Tennis Elbow\Profiles\Demos). If you want to check the recording setting, open your player's .ini file and look for a section like this:

[Record]
AutoRecord = 1
//Play = 2009-12-12.08-44 - d.pol vs CC 1-6.dmo

With settings as above, the game is recording all matches, and it isn't set to play the specified match (the .dmo file name) as there are two // preceeding the Play option. To play a recording, specify the name of the .dmo file as above and remove the two //. Then, start the game, and click to either play a match or play a warm-up session; the specified recorded match will display.

Oh, I know what you mean. It's just that I lost a couple of games because I couldn't move, and I didn't feel helplessness :).

Is there any external .dmo player that you know of? For once (or more), the web wasn't much help.
Auto-record was off on mine, so I turned it on, and shortly into the game, the problem occurred. I thought if I could just save those few points, I could upload it.

SC Tom, the .dmo files are an internal format of data for TE2009. It's not a video file, you cannot edit them in any way. But they are very small so you can send them to me easily.

Thanks! I can post one here, or email it to you, whichever you want.

One suggestion: when the players change ends, the players' shadows should be pointing in the opposite direction. I know, I know, picky, picky, picky. . . :lol:

The ...shadows shadows should be pointing in the opposite direction. Oooooooo. That's deep.
:scratch: :book: :scratch:
That's a great observation.

SC Tom, you can post ur .dmo here, or if it doesn't work, send it to my email.

About CC, I'm pretty sure he wasn't sarcastic ; my guess was that he was disappointed to not have noticed that by himself..! ;)

And u're right, the shadows are not in the good direction, so I'll fix it... :sweat:

I enabled recording in tennis.ini, have played numerous matches, and have not had the problem since. Go figure! I wouldn't have thought that would be the fix, but so far it seems to be. I'll continue with the recording setting, and if the 'glide' problem reappears, I'll post a video here.

Thanks for everyone's help!
Have a safe and happy New Year!!

SC Tom,

ManuTOO is more right than wrong. I apologize if my comment sounded sarcastic. I didn't mean it that way at all. I enjoy physics and am intrigued by things such as light and shadows, so I was pleased to see a comment that made a connection with my interests. And yes, I wish that I had thought of that. Really, it is a great observation; just as you indicated, making the shadows work properly will make the game more realistic. I've been away for the holidays, so I'm sorry that it took this long to respond.

ManuTOO, thanks for the support. I hope I don't offend anyone, as I rarely use sarcasm.

My apologies to you, CC. I shouldn't have been so thin skinned. Of all the tennis games I've owned and/or played, this one is by far the best, so if there's anything I see that can be improved upon without costing everyone involved and arm and a leg, I post it. Hesitantly sometimes, since I haven't been around here as long as some of you, and I don't want to seem like I'm criticizing (I've always hated the term 'constructive criticism' :) ).

Hope all of you had a great Christmas, and I'm looking forward to a great new year!

I have an idea, after playing TennisChampion, I saw that this tactic of lob was so unrealistic, when your opponent is lobbing the ball, when returning, the ball is somewhat slow..
But in real Tennis, when somewhat lobs, you can hit the ball with a lot of power, I don't really see it in this game..
I remember this kind of things were in Tennis Elbow 2006, always lobbing when returning etc..
That was the reason I stopped this game, and this time it happened again..

I was wondering if you could do somedthing about the drop shots in world tour. It seems as though they have no affect. Even when I play against opponents who are slow and i am near the service line and they are at the baseline and i hit a perfect drop shot, they still get to it. It's unrealistic because many players today can't get to dropshots. Only a few can. The only time I win by hitting a drop shot is if I do a drop shot volley.
