Strength of Kevin Anderson

Postby NeNa » 21 Jan 2018, 02:01

Hello,
i remember that some years ago, there was a thread concerning cpu-players, who are unexpectedly hard to beat. Unfortunately, i don't find this thread anymore. But I was reminded of this when I played against Kevin Anderson today. It was the 7th time I played him and I never was even close to beating him in any of the matches.
In the last five and a half years, I've played every Season from 1990 to 2014 (once more a great compliment to manutoo for creating a game, which has attracted me for such a long time!!!) and Anderson is - arguably apart from prime Lleyton Hewitt and Rafa - the strongest Opponent, I've ever played! But, compared to prime Hewitt and Rafa, Anderson is by far a weaker Player in real life. Furthermore, in TE the sum of his skill Points (1466 in year 2014) is way below Hewitt's (2062 in year 2001) an Rafa's (about 1900). So I don't see any reason, why he is so strong.
To me, the most astonishing part of his game is the return of serve. No matter if I serve fast or slow, with or without slice or kick, he bangs my serves back and immediately dominates the rallies. Apart from that, he makes very few unforced Errors and moves very quickly around the court. Unfortunately, I don't see any of those qualities in his real life game.

Now my question to everyone: Is it just me to perceive Anderson as ridiculously strong, or do you have the same Problems playing against him?
And a question to manutoo: Is it possible, that his very high concentration value (98) is the reason for his unexpected strength? I just checked him in the Player.ini and didn't find anything extraordinary apart from that.

King regards,

Hello,

do you play with the unmodded game ?

Concentration only helps a bit about reflexes, which is good all around, but having 98 instead of 70 or 80 won't change much.

Do other Power Baseliners give you similar difficulties ?

Hi Manutoo,

thanks for your quick Reply.

1. Yes, I've always played the original Version.

2. No, I've no Problems playing power baseliners in general. In general, very quick Players (Speed skill 90+) are the most difficult opponents for me (in my opinion, the Speed skill is a bit too affective compared to the others), no matter, which style of playing they have. But Anderson's Speed is at 85, and this should be quite manageble for me.

Hm, still mysterios, this guy...

Anderson's speed shouldn't be at 85. He's slow as hell.
I think Anderson's speed should be set around 55-60.
Dominic Thiem
Andy Murray
Daniil Medvedev

Always !
