Hi Manu

It might prove useful for those that are having problems with the "slice" serve to mention which service animes they are using...
I know that quite a few people were having problems (me included) with the timing of the 1st Sampras anime, but with this new version as of yet I have no problems...

I don't know whether or not this is the case with the new animes, but it may take some getting used to the movements since they are brand new...

I really, really like what you've done with the players "looking" at the ball while running, but as in the screenshot by Algo, the head turn is quite severe when the player is "looking back" to see where the lob landed...

I'm using the default service anim for demo users, don't which one is it
Tour Mod.

Tour issues by PM or Discord
If you don't send me a PM or DM, you might see your chances reduced. Inform me about anything that might have gone on with your matches BEFORE deadlines, otherwise, decisions won't be changed.

Crash/Body Trembling/Head Rotation

Postby jesp8000 » 26 Nov 2009, 06:00

Hello Manutoo, Here are my comments.
1. I encountered game crash.
For the first time, I encountered a crash when I quit a Training Match in Dev 1 mode. It says "The Program met an unhandled exception. Crash logged in file "System.log". Since I cannot attached directly a log file here, here is the link of the system.log for your reference.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ktqgzjzzgdz/System.Log

2. Frequent body trembling.
I don't know if its only me, but I notice that my player body has frequent body trembling when about hitting the ball. This seldom happened in the previous version. This trembling distracts the positioning of my player somehow and for me not pleasing to the eyes.

3. About Head looking at the ball.
Nice addition on animation but I think when the head look at the ball, the "UPPER BODY" should at least or slightly roll also, not only the head like a mannequin.

Will post again if I see some unusual thing on game.

Hi Manu,

I, for one, am really, really pleased with the volleyer improvements, leg action, serve adjustments, and players looking at the ball on the run and on the volley...

As mentioned before, the head turning when looking backward at a deep lob is a little too severe...

As Jesp8000 alluded to about the (trembling/shaking/vibrating) thing...I too, have noticed it even on earlier builds...
For me, I mostly see it when the CPU hits a short ball and my player is moving forward to strike the ball...(strangely enough, whenever this happens my player usually hits a winner) it's so predictable that it's almost like a signal that he will hit a winner, but none the less annoying...

So far no crashes yet, but as I've only been able to fool around with this new build for a very short time and have not tried all the different applications like doubles, on line, etc. so we shall see...

Evidently something must be going on with all these crash complaints...

The volleying is sooooo much better with the additional reach of the player in the latest version.

I know that there are bugs to work out, but these additions are excellent. Thanks!

ManuTOO, since you seem to be so good now at making animations and such, would you consider adding a special "vision" animation for Federer, either as a CPU player or an animation that we can apply to our character? Federer doesn't watch the ball in the same way that most other players do. After his swing, his eyes are still fixed on the point of impact (he holds his head still). He doesn't turn his head to follow the ball as soon as it leaves his racket. Also, his focus is more of seeing the ball from behind the strings. Here is a good reference for this:
http://www.revolutionarytennis.com/federervisiontechnique.html .

It would be nice to have this. At least, maybe the CPU player in the World Tour of Federer could have this animation. While your at it, why not make a very special animation for Nadal, picking his nos.... oh, it's not his nose. Well, it would be neat. I saw a video of Nadal delaying game play of Wimbledon 2007, which bothered Soderling; Soderling then delayed the game, making Nadal wait to serve. So, then Nadal held the ball up high and delayed more before he served; then, Soderling imitated Nadal's famous habit. It would be neat to have some things like this to use when during online matches players take to long to serve. If we also had some animations unique to the TE2009 version of real players (besides the wonderful strike animations that you have made), it would be terrific.

My Character was somehow broken?

Postby jesp8000 » 26 Nov 2009, 08:11

Hello Manu, I am posting again because I think my character seems to be broken? I notice that after few minutes of playing my character seems to be twisted a bit while hitting the ball. It seems to roll the body too much that her back is more or less 45degrees or almost facing the net. Its ok if it is hitting a 1HBH or sometimes a 2HBH but its a forehand. In fact my character's 2H backhand is also a bit too much. I created a new character with the same name and seems to solve the problem, but I am still going to observe if the problem will be back. Let me see if I can recreate that problem and take a snapshot. Its quite hard to do that because of the speed of the animation.

Have you fixed the winners/errors yet in regards to the side of the raquet? It bugs me sooo much and other people have agreed with me that it needs to be changed.

Still hasn't been fixed. I gave up on trying to convince Manu. :(

Thats what I am telling to Manutoo, theres should have this animation. Its a nice feature if we can do this animation/strike. Specially a 2HBH smash would be great. See what those 2HBH or 2HFH players in real life are doing. Its very nice.

Algo, I wasn't able to reproduce the head bug... Does it happen every time u get lobbed ? Is it same in Replay & during the game ?

jesp8000, could u do a few screenshots of the "body trembling" in replay mode ? (u can do it in Step by Step mode ; press the buttons to advance/rewind frame by frame)
Also, try to post a pic of ur "broken character"...

btaylor, most problems are online, so it's normal u didn't notice much so far... ;)

About the BH Smash, I was very close to do it for this update ; but :
1- I didn't find any slow motion video of it on Youtube
2- there's an actual gameplay problem with it, coz even if the ball arrives on ur BH side, most of time, u'll go to place urself in a position where u can do a normal smash, thus it'll create a big animation jerkiness to swap from the BH Smash to the normal smash...

Hi Manu

I kind of get what you mean about the animation issue...but, sometimes when you are in a groundstroke rally and move your player a bit late while deciding to hit a forehand or backhand there is a "jerkiness" or a "superfast switching" to that also...

But most of the time if you decide early enough which stroke you want to hit and place your player accordingly, it works out just fine...

Is there a different set of timing problems to choose between the backhand/forehand smash?
