skill levels too low on new patch?

Postby kizut1659 » 11 Apr 2017, 03:37

I’ve always felt that my skill levels were too low no matter how many (or few) tournaments I played, but on the new patch its reaching crisis proportions. I am playing on Pro/Master and the highest skill levels I’ve reached have been 970 total points and that if I play every other week. I don’t have a single category where I am above 66%.

If I take more than one week off, the points I gain from the prior tournament are not enough to make up the points I lose for taking 2 weeks off, so my points then drop to low 900s. Most top players have combined skills of 1200-1300.

Is this normal? I know I can "cheat" to increase my points but I guess I am curious if the game is designed in a way that a human player is supposed to have skill levels that are significantly lower than skill levels of computer players.

Thank You

Hello,

yes, it's normal.
At this difficulty level, you're expected to sacrifice some skills to put points in the ones that really matter... :)

Unfortunately I play Varied style and I like to volley so its impossible for me to put points in skills that really matter since I still need decent baseline to secure my approaches to the net. As such, I have baseline in low 60s and volley in mid 60s and it has been difficult for me to compete on high levels since I get overpowered on baseline and my volleys are not quite accurate enough given my mediocre skill level. What do you recommend? What counter level is generally sufficient?

Try to favor Net Presence as it's the most important volley skill.
Also, you might be able to lower your BH power & precision, but keep the consistency up.
You can have your Stamina about 10 or 15% under your Speed as you shouldn't do too long rallies, nor do too much accelerations.

Finally, try to always choose a tournament where you have a good chance to win the title, as it'll bring you extra XP points. Like this, you might be able to play 2 weeks out of 5.

Thank you I'll try! The only tournaments though where I gain enough points to last 2 weeks are grand slams and Indi and Miami masters.
