Yes, this was one of my queries too - I never knew if when serving do I think of there being an imaginary cursor (just like I get in preview for shots) that I can manipulate (in any direction) when tossing up the ball. Manutoo just said yes, if so then how does this work because the advice I'm getting from tour players is that there is no up/down direction on serve only left and right so this is a little confusing? I heard up and down put 'kick' into the serve and I see the results but I would love some clarification on how serving actually works because I am moving the directions in circular movements, just like a normal shot (i.e top-left and bottom-right movement etc for exact placement), with mixed results. I would love to have a preview or practice area for serving so I can learn exactly how the placement works because at the moment I've heard so many conflicting stories on how to serve that I still can't seem to master it myself. Some players say to hold down the button for the duration of the ball toss, others say press twice (once to throw up and once again to hit), and for the direction (and second press timing if using the double button method) some say press when the ball is at the zenith of the toss whereas others say before or after the ball has reached its highest point. It is racking my brain because I cannot get a consistent serve going, when I think I have it I use the same method and get a double fault but there has to be a consistent method of serving because I have played against people who are hitting the corner over and over at 200KMPH+. So they've clearly figured it out, so this is something that isn't simply down to 'feeling' there is a technique that can be mastered. I would love some advice on this.
