Query on Topspin

Postby fatehasfans » 08 Aug 2015, 14:39

Hi,
When assigning Topspin to "Any" direction (like I have assigned mine to B1 and "any"). When I hold the button for direction-placement (Left or Right) does this affect the timing/effect of Topspin? I mean if the control is assigned to "Any" does this means any direction including left and right? If this is true then once I press left/right for direction (to place my shot left) this will also have an impact on the charge of topspin?

The reason I ask is because I cant seem to get that much loop in my topspin shots and I am thinking of possible reasons. I remember you told me that assigning topspin to a single button would be better in theory because the amount of topspin will vary depending on how long you hold the 'trigger' for topspin (default being B1+Down, where Down is the trigger), so in practice according to you the longer or shorter you hold Down in the default controls the more/less topspin is applied - how does this apply when I assign topspin to "Any" is it triggered and counted when I Hold and press direction for Placement i.e. Left and Right? If this is the case then what is the best way to get maximum topspin from a Topspin assigned to "Any".

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Regards,
Sean

Hello,

the direction in the control is only about up/none/down ; "any" means use any of these 3 directions.
If you want to aim left/right while preparing your topspin strike with B1+down, you have to press in the diagonal, both down+left or down+right.

Note: if you don't center the ball correctly in your racket, you'll lose a lot of topspin effect.

So I need to hit the ball in the centre of the racket for maximum topspin? But what I also want to know is does holding the direction (i.e. up diagonally) affect the amount of topspin? So for default controls B1+Down would holding down for longer produce a higher amount of topspin and if this is the case would the same apply to assigning to "Any", in other words I would need to press B1 for the shot then hold up-diagonally for more topspin and if I only press up-diagonally briefly I get less? I just want to know if whether tapping and holding the directions make a difference. Thanks.

If you use "any" direction with a button that doesn't have any other strike mapped to it, then pressing up/down doesn't have any influence on the topspin amount, you'll get the maximum possible (according to the current ball and your positioning).

Question about this in documentation:

"A topspin ball gives more accuracy on length, but it loses some gross speed."

Does this mean that a topspin shot in general will go deeper than a standard strike? Does the amount of topspin change this?

EdicoNova,
it means the aiming zone gets smaller on its depth axis.
The topspin strike is actually a bit shorter, but it's more than compensated by the extra height & speed after the bounce.
