Defenders (gravel)

Postby Daffers » 02 Jul 2009, 12:06

I get hammered by defenders everytime, my player is now ranked 111. and i play at master sub 1..
i won 2 challengers, and i got to semi finals of them twice on gravel, but everytime i play one i lose 6-1 6-0 or something like that, it's just impossible to make a winner, is there anyway as a power baseliner to beat them ?
i have tried evertything, slice, top-spin back and wait, hard groundstrokes, drop-shots... it just doesn't seem to work..
i have no chances at all, this way i can never win any gravel tournament, or do you guys have any suggestions how to play them?

Net play sounds pretty ok.

is this really the only option ? i keep failing in volleying, and also i have no skills yet in them, since i play from the back ussually.
If this is the only good solution, than i might want to add some stats to my volleying in trying to defeat those damn defenders..
(those matches take so long). Can't think of any upcoming roland garros match against a defender, it would take me 2 hours to complete :S..
Hope anyone else has some other usefull tips. (otherwise i might be forced to play defenders on maybe pro sub 10 to give me just a little chance of winning instead of none at all) but i rather not play defenders on a lower skill.

It's just patience, use slice to the weak shot of your opponent (example: when I played against Rafael Nadal, I used a lot of slice over his backhand; there were a lot of rallies but I beat him 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 in Roland Garros, at Master sub 8).

I always use Nadal's tactic, high topspin, when he his a slice (theoretical improbable :( ) shoot a dropshot  , shoot a crosscourt  or slice to net (if puncher, varied or volleyer), my player is defender-baseliner :? , try in serve to shoot strong serves 130mph 135mph or 140mph and wait short slice(theoretical improbable :() to shoot a strong forehand to a winner, patiente is most important to beat him, it takes alot to beat them, Hamburg F 1:30 l. to Nadal 63 46 75, Montecarlo SF w. to Nadal 63 60 in Pro1
