Quick question about assigned shots

Postby fatehasfans » 30 Jul 2015, 02:04

Hi,
I use a Playstation 2 pad (the sticks) and I assign all the shot types to individual buttons - for example I have Normal shot assigned to button X, Slice assigned to Circle, Topspin assigned to button R1, I have Accelerate assigned to Square, Short Accelerate assigned to R2, Drop shot assigned to L1 and so on....

Everything seemed fine until I spoke to a person I was playing and they explained that Topspin isn't an actual shot but a type of effect put on all your shots, so when he holds Down (+b1) he gets the Topspin 'effect' on his shots, he mentioned that this is how you apply topspin to all shots? Now, I initially thought that Topspin was a type of shot that could be assigned to a button, and when using my R1 button I was convinced I was getting more depth with that type of shot than just using Normal shot (button X). But after speaking with this guy and testing the Topspin shot versus Normal I couldn't really see any difference so this made me think he was right, he is also much, much, much, better than me and his shot depth is astounding so I was confused and so needed to come here for clarification. If this is the case do I need to assign Topspin to a Down or Up function so it can be applied to all my shot types (Accelerate, Short-normal etc)?

Thanks.

Hello,

the person you talked to didn't read the documentation... :whistle:
=> https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Ten ... ml#strikes

There's 1 thing though : you can dose how much topspin you want by switching between the normal strike & the topspin strike ; with the default control scheme, it is as easy as to press B1 and press down more or less time... However, usually, there's no reason to do that, except when you are _very_ early on the ball, because overcharging the topspin strike makes it a bit less effective.

Hi Manutoo,
Yes, I kind of understand but I'm still a little confused as my question still remains, can Topspin be assigned to a button as an individual shot or is it an 'effect' that must be applied to a shot (which would explain why it is a directional function of B1+Down)? The documentation doesn't explain this which is why it is confusing to me - would I be best to assign it to a directional function such as up or down or can I keep it as a separate button?

Thanks.

You can keep it as a different button. Usually, it's a bit more effective to get the max topspin possible (ie: it's faster to press 1 button than 1 button then down)
