What are accelerations & Elite/Sim ..?

Postby 547984 » 28 Jul 2015, 01:05

Hello, I have played TE for quite a few months now, but still have some things that I don't understand. I usually just play with a few friends, so I am not really "improving" at the game too much.

1. What is "acceleration" concept?? I searched it on this forum and see it is mentioned a lot, but never understood what it is, and how to use it. So far I see it has something to do with tiredness, usually when I am playing, tiredness is never a factor...no matter how I play, so I assume i never really "used" this feature.

2. What are the different type of controls, elite, sim, etc. I never bothered with this setting, so can someone explain this?

Acceleration shots are the most powerful of the shots available to you, and are primarily used to get on the offensive in a rally or to go for outright winners - they take more of your stamina bar away than the regular strikes, and this is affected by the style of your character (Power Baseliners can use more accels than Volleyers with less tiredness penalty). They are mapped to "B1+B2" in your controls, which can be seen and remapped in the control options menu.

The different control settings (arcade/sim/elite) affect the difficulty of shot execution and frequency of errors. Elite is the most difficult, and is very unforgiving if you are just slightly outside of the "sweet spot" for striking the ball (especially on accel shots) and shots need longer to charge for the same level of precision as the easier difficulties.

The game documentation explains these things in greater detail and I think it's worth reading to gain a better understanding of some of the gameplay mechanics;

Ok, thanks for the reply. I guess I really was using the acceleration, but I just called it the "Fire 1+2 shot"...haha. Still, with tiredness on and all that, it seems as if players stamina don't go down noticeably for one to use it at least semi-conservatively, personally I use it on every shot, maybe I need to play a 5 set match to see its effect?

And I will play around with the control settings.

Tiredness is also affected heavily by the attributes of your character and their style - e.g. Counter style players tend to tire much more slowly (they have unlimited acceleration shots without additional tiredness penalty) and a higher stamina attribute will help to limit the effect of tiredness. As you say, tiredness is more pronounced in longer matches, and especially those which have lots of long rallies (so it's most noticeable during clay court matches).

It is possible to turn tiredness off in the character sheet, so perhaps you have done this unintentionally if you still aren't seeing it in-game.

There are some situations where an acceleration shot is not the best choice, so using them on every stroke is not ideal - for example, when you're on the defensive and can only just reach the ball, not being in the sweet spot with no time to charge, an acceleration shot will be very prone to produce an error. Using the b1 regular or top spin strikes here will greatly reduce the chance of making an error, and will more consistently find a better depth than a poorly executed accel.
