A question on shot types and more...

Postby fatehasfans » 26 Jul 2015, 22:20

Hi,
Firstly, I love the game - best Tennis game I've ever played by a country mile.

However I would love to get better and to do that I need to overcome some problems with my play.

My biggest query is with shot controls. I am using a PS2 controller and I have assigned each individual shot to a button - but with some shot such as Normal and Short Normal I have assigned to button B3 with directions 'Any' and 'Down' respectively, so this brings me to my question; when Normal shot is assigned to 'Any' does this mean that when I press any direction it will activate this shot? Though this confuses me a little because to initiate a shot we need to hold the assigned button (in this case B3) and then move the direction to assign shot placement so how/when does the direction I have assigned for a shot come into play in a shot outcome? This is what puzzles me for the Short version of Normal shot I have assigned the 'Down' direction and I never know when I am to press down when initiating a shot, do I press down then hold the B3 button then move left or right for placement? This seems a lot to do and I have tried this and see no difference in shot types.

This brings me to my second question, with this in mind, if I am to assign a shot type to the 'No Direction' am I to stand still (press no direction) before activating a shot/return? Don't we do that for practically every shot to prepare for Button lock and aim placement?

I would love to have this cleared up, thanks.

P.S. Ohh I have the steam version and anyone who would like to help me get better feel free to add me my steam name is 'fatehasfans', thanks.

Lastly, I cannot seem to return serve people are hitting 200+kmph serves on the corner or middle line and to make either I need to extend to one side which makes me vulnerable to the other - I can try and 'dupe' people by faking one side but most of the time I get caught out. This makes, for me, serves practically impossible to return for I am lucky to get my racket on the ball never-mind actually putting the opposing player under pressure. It's very frustrating because there are no videos or tutorials around on how to serve so its all blind learning and I have no basis for serving. When the ball is tossed at what point do I press the button to initiate aiming etc and when do I press Up/Down during this for the Topspin effect?

Overall ^^ I would love someone to help teach me get better, I would love someone to look at my game and tell me what I am doing wrong - some people online just said to watch videos but there are no tutorial videos or anything in depth that talks about how the good players do things such as button assignment, shot selection shot explanation etc. I would love some help because I know my angles but I just don't know the mechanics, which is a little disheartening because every game my opponents seem to be hitting the ball twice as hard and twice as accurate!

Thanks.

Hello,

1- no direction = no up/down direction.
Any direction = up, down or no direction (if another strike use a defined direction, then this other strike is proprietary)
Turn on the aiming preview to see the aiming zone changing when you press B3 then down then release down then down again.

2- serve & return :

Thanks for the response, though in relation to the timing of pressing down/up that is still not answered, do I press up/down before I hold B1,2,1+2 or after? Thanks.

If you press down (or any direction) before to pressing a strike button, you'll run down (or to any direction) and it's usually not what you want to do.

Ideally, press both the button & up/down at the same time, but you can also press up/down after.
