Some help with controls

Postby fatehasfans » 05 Jul 2015, 20:33

Hi,
I need some help with timing shots + I just need to know when to press or down to change my shot type. So when the ball is coming toward me in a central line and I am in position, do I hold the button to swing just before the ball is about to hit my racket and if so do I move left or right to position or can you move diagonally (top-left/right etc)? If this is more or less the timing to position my shots left and right then when do we need to press up or down? Also, if I change my buttons/strikes to 'Any', for example say I change Acceleration shot to B1 and 'Any' direction will this override the rest of my shots assigned to B1, say for example B1+Down = short acceleration? Also on serves do Hold the button when serving or do you press (to throw it up) then press again to strike? At what stage do you direct the serve?

Any help on the above would be great

Hm...well, if you press up or down, or shot button during running, your player will just stop right?

However, before he fulls stops, he will deacelerate for a few meters...so basically you need to learn the timing when to press buttons, for your player to start deacelerating and stop at the exact place where you want him to stop...
And the longer you are holding shot buttons, the more precise your shots can be (dont hold it too long though, it can go wide)

However, the lower delay you are using, player will stop faster...so you need to adjust often your timing of pressing shot buttons on different delays...

One suggestion, when you misjudge your players movement, and he moves further than you wanted him, and ball is going into your body...do not use acceleration shot, as it will go wide/net...use normal shot, as it will probably pass over the net...not very dangerous for your opponent, but hey, you won't lose the point immediately, and maybe you can still turn it around :D

Regarding controls, you can't use both typse of controls at the same time...you have to choose one with arrows or one without arrows...simplier or complex one (simplier being one with arrows)

No he keeps on running - that's my movement, so when do I time the Up or Down press? I wait for ball, ball comes, I hold in button my guy starts to swing and I aim left or right? Or I can aim top-left top-right and this will qualify as an Up press? Because at the moment that's not happening. I am hitting short acceleration shots that in practice land equal to the service box lines on either side (so about halfway up opponents half) which is short and what I want. However, when I play online and do the same thing the ball goes long (as in beyond his baseline) and I don't know what I am doing wrong, in practice those shots are hitting the line over and over and then online they're going waaaaaay long, so the controls are confusing me. Should I just assign each shot to a button? Also can you do short slice shots (Not drop shot) if so how?

All help greatly appreciated!

Not sure I understand what you mean. Can you clarify a little? Thanks.

Im not 100% sure about this, .as I havent played for a long time...

But you have two types of controls..

Ones with arrows...where you press for example (my buttons are set ASD, A being acceleration shot, S - Slice, D - normal shot)...so D+up is drop shot, D+up, being lob. right?

There are those controls combined with arrows and there are other controls where you can set differnet letter for each type of shot.

So you can set, instead of pressing D+up for drop shot to be only letter C, and on the other hand instead D+down, you can just set letter V

So whenever you press C, you will make drop shot, and whenever you press V you will make lob...

So you can't combine those two types of controls at the same time...if you use 2nd type, your arrows wont do anything, you will just have to press single button to make drop shot, or lob, or whichever shot you want...

Well you have to press shot button also in order for him to start slowing down. If you press top left or top right to early, your balls will just go wide...you have to learn timing by yourself when to prest left or right..

But as soon as you press shot button, your player should start slowing down quite fast...in that moment you choose where you want to make a shot...the longer time you have to prepare that shot, the deeper and faster it will be...but careful with holding left/right too long...you have to learn the timing by feeling, it comes with practice

Also one tip, if you have time when hitting the ball, try always make a step forward, to go into a ball a little bit, it will go faster and longer...

When you see that you will hit ball with your body, use weaker shot, DO NOT use acceleration shot, it will get you only errors...

When someone sends you top spin balls, do not use acceleration (mostly), play weaker shots, wait for shorter ball

fatehasfans,
turn on the aiming preview in your Character Sheet, then play in Warm Up, it'll greatly help to understand how the controls work..!

>> And the longer you are holding shot buttons, the more precise your shots can be (dont hold it too long though, it can go wide)

Precision => You can hold the shot button as long as you want, it's the aiming left/right that shouldn't be pressed too long time ; so sometimes you press the shot button, then you have to wait before to aim left/right, else your aiming will be incorrect

>> However, the lower delay you are using, player will stop faster...so you need to adjust often your timing of pressing shot buttons on different delays...

It's not exactly that ; details => https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Ten ... meCreation .
